Special tidbit: of 900 people logging in the last five days since we've implemented this, about 650 had to reset their passwords.

Maybe a badge for those that didn't :)

Clint

Or a "Special Jimmy" badge for those of us that did have to change our passwords...and repeatedly got the process wrong.

Should have a badge for those people with emails hosted by ISPs and services that don't exist anymore (IHUG, Paradise) or left the employment with a company which hosted their email when registering on Geekzone for the first time and because of that they can't reset their password and use the old account anymore.

Would that be the "DOH!" award?

After trying to manually change and finding each one was on the banned list; I said fudge it and let Google give me a password.

Now only Google knows the password to Geekzone.

There are links to quite a few password generators on the notice page. Here they are:

Can't shame anyone who has to change their password or we'll deter people from taking good action.

I had my password for 14 years. Don’t have a clue what my password is now, had Apple make a strong one and save to key chain.

RIP my old password :(

Just logged in for the first time in over a week - no issues :-)

Out of curiosity, of those 650 or so resets - were they all unique or were there a few 'repeat offenders'?

They were unique as we check the new password during reset and password update so they would only be shown the password reset required message after login on the first time their password appears as compromised.

A couple of things - I've actually added a badge for those who login, meaning their passwords pass the test.

Also Dropbox Passwords will have a free tier for up to 50 passwords, from April.

It is hard to beat Bitwarden with their free offering - considering Lastpass now restrict the device type you use with the free account.

I've literally tried essentially all password managers and Bitwarden is by-far my favorite.

I'm tempted to move across to Bitwarden on the back of the recommendations here. I've been a happy paid family plan user of LastPass so not impacted by their latest changes to the free tier but the incessant reminding now to add my billing information to the the vault is starting to wear thin. I have no intention of storing my credit card details in the cloud, I'm more than happy to pull out my credit card and enter the card details every time I make an on-line purchase.

I just want a password manager, stop telling me that I should store my billing information in the application!

I moved the wife and I to Bitwarden a few months back, and it's a far better experience than LastPass. Have since moved other family members over as well.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I couldn't pay for lastpass at all. Tried all my NZ credit cards. Even putting in a real legit billing address and with and without ticking the box and putting in a valid GST number. Failed all the time with no useful error and banks here are no help when you call about it.

Used my transerwise - errr I mean wise card and a portland address and straight thru. No GST either.

Just paying for lastpass is easiest, and TBH I feel better about using services when I pay for them. Put it on family and then added all my lastpass accounts as family.

Moved from LastPass Free to 1Password family account after LastPass got ever more painful to use on Android. Used to be a Scrooge, I'm finally paying for decent password management but it's a small price to pay for piece of mind. I won't be going back.
