Any word on the 24 hour deletion of notification queue idea? It was a good one?

No plans for that - yet. Thinking of it.

I'm definitely in favour of a 24- or 48-hour reset.

RedJungle will be in Auckland tomorrow for the Geekzone pizza and I will be talking to him about this. We both have to be convinced it's a good case. For example right now I can see there are 300 notifications sent but people haven't visited the discussions yet (otherwise they'd have been deleted).

Also note that if we "reset" after 24 hours it doesn't mean you would automatically receive a new notification. It means you would receive a notification still only if someone replied on that discussion after 24 hours from the previous notification.

I've never been more productive in discussions with RedJungle, than over pizza and free beers.

Freitasm:  I got the "new" style notification for the beer and pizza evening @ 8:16 today, which i didn't visit.  I've been offline for all this time and when I jumped back online I can see another "old style" notification that has come in @ 14:13.  Possible there is some old code still able to be called?

(Liking the new style, btw)

It shouldn't. Not that by visiting any page of that discussion you reset it. Also the emails should have a 'note' advising it is only onee notification. Also the mobile site is not doing the reset yet.

FYi I have thought of a way for users to select on their profile 'Notify on all replies', 'Notify once only', 'Notify once every 24 hours'. Talked to Phil and it should be a quick change but won't be before end of the week now.

The second notification was definitely the old style -  no note at the bottom indicating only one email being sent.  Perhaps it was triggered by someone using the mobile site?

Correct. The mobile site is still using the old code.

I've finished coding an update that will allow users to set notifications in three levels: all replies, one notification until next visit for 24 hours, and one notification only until next visit.

Because of this I will set a default to old style to everyone. You will be able to change the option in your profile page.

This is not live until RedJungle finishes the changes in the service, but I am thinking of sending an email out to everyone who ever posted in the forums notifying of the changes.

Please read carefully:

I have released a new version of our forums - if you haven't noticed the bright buttons now...

With this I have also released an option to chose between the old style notification (one notification for every reply) and the new style notification (one notification only until you visit the forum again).

You can change this option in your profile. Some time soon we will allow a third option (one notification only until you visit the forum, automatically reset every 24 hours).

That was quick... RedJungle just sent me the updated service, so I have enabled the 24 hour reset option in your profile pages too.

Sending out an email about this soon.

Folks, I have added a new option - One notification per hour.

So now we have:

1.Old style (one notification for each reply)
2.One notification only
3.One notification only every 24 hours
4.One notification only every hour

The notification timers reset when you visit the discussion.

Sorry but I did not read all the comments so this may have been asked...

When we receive a personal message, can the content of that message also be included in the email?
