Did the font change today?

Seems to have gone to something like Open Sans on ie11 today.

Fonts changed yesterday and are Arial - present in 99.6% of Windows and Mac devices.

I am not a fan of the bigger font myself. I liked it just fine before it was changed.

I agree its easier to read

But a part of my heart says , the forums have gone from a exclusive, nerdy, geeky forum to a old people nanna forum and i shouldnt be over here.

I know its strange feeling, but thats how branding, images and fonts do to you over a period of years.

I am sorry you feel like this. Nothing else changed, just the fonts. So perhaps YOU are the one who changed?

gzt:
freitasm:

I have been toying with the idea of removing the mobile Geekzone site and replacing with the main site, but to do that have to change to a responsive design.

We already have something in place - if you visit the main site on mobile we don't show the sidebar in forum pages and hide the square ads, only leaving the leaderboard ones.

There is a risk of getting hammered in page rank. Maybe there is a way around it retaining the same mobile url and some layout defaults for the mobile url.

Not sure why you think there is a risk of page rank suffering...the site needs to be mobile compatible, it doesn't have to have a separate mobile equivalent. A responsive, mobile friendly dual purpose site is fine by Google. And that's what freitasm is suggesting - a single site using responsive design.

Hmmmm I guess is more of a parallel comparison i am drawing from other forums like XDA etc which are in smaller fonts, which I am more used to ( am sure many other would be well too )

So I think I would just have to get used to it!! :)

Not a big deal.

Totally support the change in font and size for the main text - it's so much easier to read. (I initially checked I hadn't accidentally zoomed on the screen!) I'd support increasing the font on the editor as well; I know you have plans to do this so just a +1 for that.

I do agree with an earlier comment, though, that I don't think the left-hand column text (# posts, friends, status etc) needs to be as large as the main body text, as it's slightly distracting and makes this part of the page a bit busy. What about dropping that down a point? The change from 11 to 10 can be quite marked...

This explains everything, I thought my zoom/resolution was screwy.  Zoomed GZ to 90%, now much better...

Is it possible to allow the choice by way of an option to switch back to the old font. I am finding this new font ... far from ideal.

Generally good.  Agree with the points about making the user details section in forums a little crisper.  They take up a lot of vertical space even for single line forum posts.  Some of the bold and underlined titles and hyperlinks are now 'to' big in my opinion, for example to 'Friends' section on the homepage.
