I don't mind the adds, but that Air NZ one does seem to be particularly buggy.

TradeMe had some flash animation banner ad thing a while back that kept making Chrome crash for anyone using that browser. It was bloody annoying.

I mentioned before I was going to remove that a couple of days ago.

Ah thanks missed that post!

I have GZ whitelisted in my adblocker, so see the adds. I don't mind them too much, as I know that they help pay the running costs for this great site. I have even clicked on some of them.

The AirNZ and Seek ones at the bottom are a bit of a pain when the mouse accidentally wanders over them.

I should really stop procrastinating and pay the subscription. $25 is only 7c per day!

Yup, it's a small price to pay to support the site and have an ad free experience.

The subscription bashers here are as bad as religious door knockers.
We are well aware a sub can disable ads and supports the site, that doesn't address the complaint. Ads also support the site, and the last comment I read suggested ads might be worth more per user than a sub. Now scram.

Here is a screenshot I promised. This one didn't take up the entire left side like it sometimes does, and stayed anchored to the post rather than the screen.

I am aware that the BDFL knows what causes this and a fix will be a long time coming.

I had a far worse issue a couple of days ago though.
The bottom ads are now my biggest complaint, they blow up when I "mouse over" with my no mouse, which is annoying.
However, in my haste trying to close one of these, I accidentally clicked it. To my delight, the ad magically full screened and there was absolutely no way to close it.

I don't mind the adds but this is driving me crazy on my tablet.

It makes browsing Geekzone almost impossible. This never used to happen.

There is no way to close the add, and it stays at the one place on the page making it impossible to read the post it covers up. It would still be annoying but acceptable if there was a way to close it or if you could scroll past it and be able to read what's underneath the advert.

Funny thing is that the ad code is not served on tablets. Visit testip.geekzone.co.nz and PM the user-agent string.

I would say he has the Google Chrome data saver enabled.

I don't use Chrome, Opera is a much better mobile browser. I had the desktop agent set as some sites serve up really crappy mobile sites.

I started using Opera a few weeks back. So much better than Chrome. And it reflows pages Chrome doesn't.

I have also gone over to Opera for most browsing though as a subscriber I don't have the ad issue on GZ. Problems like those mentioned here can also be easily solved with a Javascript switch extension. I keep one on my browser for sites that really are annoying, like CNN. Whenever something pops over or gets in the way of what I want to read, I just flick Javascript off. It works pretty well for the most annoying intrusions.

And that's a vote of support for Opera for mobile AND desktop browsing?

I'm keen on trying Opera out, but given there appears to be no syncing of bookmarks between it and other browsers (in my case Chrome) I'd need to switch to Opera on all devices (phone, tablet and desktop).
