Thank you everyone who helped so far - good numbers and even managed an ID verification with a non-New Zealand document.

Earlier this morning I've updated the intro page with text related to the Privacy Act. This will be later incorporated to our Privacy Policy but I am posting here so you can read it:

freitasm:

Tasks:

- Integrate verification code and platform (scripts, database)
- Add the ID-verified tag to forum posts and public profile pages
- Release to beta testers so they can get ID-verified and show up in discussions with the appropriate tag (and badge!)
- Modify forums so that some will be open only to ID-verified users or users with a much higher post count than today's limits. These will be Offers/Wanted, Startups and Politics.
- Introduce the manual/automated required ID verification for edge cases

And done!

I had a few issues with desktop web browsers not wanting to work, but once it was working, it was actually intuitive and worked well. People like TSB need to sort their one out. I would have opened an account with them if their verification process wasn't so stupid (can't switch devices mid registration if your desktop doesn't have a web camera and no manual workaround).

Just need to get one of those fancy administrator designations now :)

Done, took all of 1 minute and most of that was finding my license photo.

Happy to do the verification thing if you want to add me into the beta group

I have actually just released the ID verification to the general user group.

I am still working on the limits for sub-forums as mentioned in the list above.

Will that post count requirement be above 971?

Better than being a British who escaped to this lovely country.

Also it was painless doing this ID thing. Neat.

@kingjj:

@freitasm - out of curiosity, what information would be able to be gained by Police etc. for this new verification method and by using which processes? Would they submit a request to you or the processor? Would it require a Warrant or could information be provided using an emergency Information Request (say for situations where there was imminent risk to a persons welfare)? As WithPersona hold the verification data would a request be made to them or would GZ facilitate it?

I only ask as this is something I have been involved with and it would be useful to know where GZ stands on this.

Good questions, thanks. Before going live with this feature I will update our Privacy Policy, including company name and address, purpose of the collection and how it's used and stored. Disclosure is governed by the Privacy Act 2020, principle 11. You can find more here.

Cheers, have noted the update to the Privacy Policy. I'll flick you a PM with a few other questions regarding this.

Wouldnt recognize me as being same person on license. Mainly I think because 1) I've lost a lot of hair :D  2) It's a bad quality photo on the license  3) Card has always had some big mark going through it distorting it a bit.

So I'll need to try an alternative method....
