Hi all,

Hope someone can help. I trying to get my Nova-S Plus DVB-S card working in Windows 7 Media Centre and I am not sure what I should be setting things to.

I get to the point of selecting the satellite (Optus D1) and from there I am lost.

It is asking to select LNB Type

Universal
Custom Single Oscillator
Custom Dual Oscillator

Which one should I be selecting? I have tried the "Universal" and get no signal. If it helps I have a dual LNB on the dish, so I would guess the "Custom Dual" would be the right one. But then it ask's a bunch of things like "Low-Band Oscillator & High-band Oscillator & Transition Frequency" which I have no clue about.

Hope someone can help me out.

Sounds like you need to select Custom Single Oscillator and put in 10750 for the LNB setting.
22500 is the Symbol rate if it asks.

Edit:

OK I just setup my machine again (finally got around to getting an all power pass sat splitter as I have dual Nova-S cards) and you have to Select Optus D1.
It will add a whole of junk channels that you can untick from the guide later.
Then you need to select Custom Single Osciallator and set it to 10750.
Then do a scan on single transponders, 12456 & 12483 with a symbol rate of 22500.
That should find all the Freeview channels. (11 on one transponder & 9 on the other including radio stations)
Then you need to go into the guide setup and untick any unwanted channels and rearrange the ones you want into the order you want. The channel numbers don't matter so much as you aren't blasting them out to a set-top-box.
The EPG should fill in automatically once you start watching TV.

Ok,

Just tried that and I am still getting nothing.

By the way does the Nova-S provide power to the LNB? Just wondering if that could be the problem, or could the card be a dud?

Just not geeting any signal, but if I plug in a STB all is fine.

They do provide power as I only have the DVB-S cards connected to my sat and it is working fine.

So have you guys managed to get the NOVA-S card working under Windows 7? What driver did you use? I didn't have any luck when I tried last.

I used this driver CD that I grabbed from the UK site.

The disk is "WinTV6 CD 4.6b"

Loaded all the drivers fine.

A number of the satellite dishes in NZ use 11300 as the oscillator frequency. Try that in place of 10750 before you spend too much time with other things. The symbol rate of 22500 is correct regardless of the dish and if you get asked about Horizontal or Vertical select Horizontal. Finally if your asked about the FEC rate select 3/4.

If your sharing the Dish with a Sky decoder then ensure that the splitter that you are using is a power pass splitter and that the power pass path is directed towards the Sky decoder. If you do not use a sky decoder it will not matter.

Has anyone else had much luck with this card?

I have been having a play with media center in windows 7, I have installed the card and tuned the channels. The EPG is populated correctly but anytime I try to watch live TV I get an error message stating that the decoder is not installed correctly or is faulty and advises to restart media center and/or windows?

I am running the latest drivers.

Ok it is something to do with the codecs and licensing.

I set the pc clock back to pre Oct 2006 and it worked??

Must have been some changes to the licences around the mpeg codecs back then.

I am downloading powerdvd9 at the moment so hopefully I will be able to use those codecs and set the clock back to normal time.

Are you using the official beta 7000 or one of the leaked builds. You are likely to have issues like this using the non-official builds as they are not extensively tested before delivery to OEMs etc. I would suggest you try the official beta if you are having issues with a leaked build.

Installing PowerDVD won't help as you cannot change the codecs that MC uses.

Hauppauge have also recently released some newer drivers for the 88x cards here

The decoder on some of the builds expired on about the 15th of March (don't quote me on this). There was a patch to fix (KB963660 - see here for details http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/343857.aspx) but this didn't work of 7022.

If your using 7022 this will probably be the problem. You can either revert to 7000 or get hold of 7057.

7057 works very well, so far... I'd go as far as to say it is easily the most stable build I've used to date. That is it has the best native Freeview performance, the best extender experience (using the XBox 360) and has less bugs than any of the other releases so far.

I am using the card on Build 7000, for drivers I used the disc that came in the box and it worked without any issues. I am not using it for Freeview though, I use it for Asiasat 3s.

And yes it does power the LNB, I checked with a multimeter and ofcourse the fact that it works without adding anything extra in the middle.

As far as i can remember don't think I installed any codecs to get the TV (MPEG4 and MPEG2) to work...so can't be a codec issue.

I am using an official build.

You can change the codecs, you just have to download a seperate program (hack) which changes them.

I will check out the newer drivers and see how I go.

After I installed powerdvd9 I changed the codecs but it didn't run anyway. I got a still shot of whatever was playing.

I had another go using some of the suggestions above and even replaced the codecs with the later ones from 7057, still didn't work.

I've had enough for now anyway, my htpc is going on trademe tomorrow, I will stick to my set top box, turns on when you want it to and the pic quality is better.

I might try the htpc deal in a year or so when things are a little more user friendly. I didn't find mediaportal too bad for tv but the music and pictures interface is fairly basic and clunky, hopefully the will address this in the next release.

Windows 7 maybe better when it is officially released, by then though the TV's that are currently being sold in japan with built in hard drives may be for sale here negating the need for a htpc at all, who knows?

I have the Nova-S Plus running on W7MCE (Built 7968 x86) without probs.
I used the drivers only package - Drivers Only WHQL XP+Vista(32/64) (88x_2_123_27056_WHQL.zip)
from the Hauppauge Site. I had to switch PCI slots to geht the drivers to install, but other than that software installation went fine.
I used the setup dialog within MCE to konfigure the Nova-S. I specified my country settings first. Then I was offered a list of Satellites that fit my settings. I picket the appropriate satellite and that was that.
At some point, Windows 7 started installing Nova related updates as well, I do not know, if that helped too, but at least I can say that the Nova S actually works fine with W7MCE.
