Just saw this announced on twitter:

http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/residential/homeplan/internet/naked-broadband.cfm

From what I can gather it only works in UCLL areas (it didn't like any addresses I gave it unless it was close to an exchange)

Looks like you can get a phoneline with it but unsure if they mean VoIP ?

It does seem to be limited... it's rejected every address I've tried too, including my parents' (who are on an exchange - WHK - not a cabinet).

From what I can gather it's not VoIP but a "normal" phone line, albeit without free local calling.

Naked Broadband+ is here! Broadband + the security and convenience of a phoneline – without having to pay for line rental. Naked Broadband+ comes in packages from 20GB to 150GB and lets you choose Calling Off (bye bye telemarketers) or Calling On (yes mum, I’m eating my veges) Calling Off blocks ALL inbound and outbound calling. If you want Calling On, then just pay for the calls you make, starting from just 10c per minute to call locally and 25c per minute to call landlines around NZ. We’re busy working on bringing Naked Broadband+ to even more New Zealanders, but for now it’s only available in limited areas. Find out all the details and if your home can get it here

Replaced by TSO

And it only applies to Telecom and Chorus anyway...

@DJShadow, I think that the kiwishare thing only applies to Telecom, and even then it doesn't require that every plan include free local calling, only that a free local calling plan is available at a price constrained by inflation.

So it's naked broadband, but not quite naked broadband. Interesting.

great plans

My questions

1. Can i choose to get my speed reduced if I went over the cap rather than getting additional packs? since I usually only use 10Gb per month, so it is quite likely for me to over the cap.

2. If I want Calling on, what will happen to some of the call features? Where can I get information on cost related to call features? eg. Voice mail, Calling ID。。。。

So, what are the conditions needed for this to be available in your area? Will it even be available for me before Fibre...

It's available in the Unbundled Local Loop areas that TelstraClear invested in - hence the address check needed.

Thought that was the case hence most addresses I tried were rejected, any chance it will go onto the chorus wholesale network?

It would only be the recent UCLL significant price drop set by the Commerce Commission that make this pricing affordable. There isn't a chance in the world of seeing level entry pricing like this on wholesale as it'd be a huge loss.

Ah.

With UFB on the way, is it even likely that they're going to bother adding their gear into other exchanges?
