Anyone think Vodafone has realised their 3g coverage maps on their site are out of date? I was in dick smith the other day and noticed maps dated Sept 2006 which showed much better coverage in towns that originally got it and new places like Timaru and Gisborne listed with coverage yet the maps on vodafone's site still seem to be the original ones.

Yes, this was noted by Tony before (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=40&TopicId=10176) when he tried to purchase a couple of 3G phones from a store in Gisborne. We talked about this, but I am not sure how much effort Vodafone puts on this part of the site.

They'd be CRAZY not to keep the maps up to date - especially when they are already lagging behind Telecom in coverage!

I would have thought Vodafone would bust a gut to keep the 3g maps up to date but alas no. I don’t think they have updated them since launch. Piss poor, like the 3g coverage.

3G coverage is not piss poor just cause it may not be %100 where you live it has expanded in many areas

Hi John. Where I live currently 2g is also poor, but I can get 3g if I hold the phone up to a window on one side of the house. Yet I still prefer Vodafone, and have just replaced my V800 with a new 3g handset. Telecom works fine here and can get EV-DO. For me a visit to the voda website maps leaves me disappointed, seems like no improvement at all to the service. Vodafone used to list new and upgraded cell sites would be nice if they did that again. I believe vodafone should inform customers of the improvements they have made.

A lot of the new areas that are popping up at the moment are still been tested and refined I believe. Paraparaumu has 3G coverage but its not always on. I have a new 3G cellsite 200M from my house that has been on and off and had techs up and down the mast for the last 6 weeks (it was installed about 8 weeks ago now). Customers I have in Gisborne say that the 3G covergae is there one day and not the next.

So while YES there is more cell sites going in round the country, it doesn't mean they're all up and running 100%
