Do you really have to have a vodem to get the $49/1gb data plan?

Does anyone know what the upload speed is on data plans? Is it the same as download?

The max on HSDPA is 384Kpbs uploads, but of course you won't ever get this.

I take it that it's still faster than the 128k I'm getting presently from dsl.

Actually, speed tests show my upload speed being consistently above 300kbps, so I'm getting pretty damn close to the theoretical maximum. Of course, not everyone can expect the same performance that I'm getting, because it can be affected by a range of different factors.
