I've visited the new Vodafone New Zealand flagship store here in Wellington, on 358 Lambton Quay. Pictures below. Interesting things I found out: there are about 20 Vodafone owned stores around the country. This is one of them.

The new logo design is used in the facade, but the design is an exclusive one. It starts as a strip in the front of the store and it goes through the interior space. The walls have writings about Wellington, a "jargon buster" with all the TLA and other technical terms used in cellular and other information.

There are disctinct areas for business, consumers, 3G, 2.5G phones, plus some "pull me" drawers where one can see interesting tidbits of information.

It looks like you will be able to recharge and pay your accounts on these stores, unlike the ones owned by third parties.

Another advantage is that all handsets on display are actually live devices, not the plastic mock up ones we see in other stores.

This is something that has surprised me in NZ. Vodafone UK have been doing this for years and IMHO it's a great idea. When I was in the UK last year they also had phones set up inviting you to video call your mates for free to see how the service works, any idea if you can do this?

Hi there,

Please note that the store is at 358 Lambton Quay, opposite the Old Bank arcade.

Cheers,

That's a very nice concept, Hopefully it will also provide some top-notch service. Too often there have been flagship stores or concepts which close shortly after opening. The "live" handsets is a biggie. Excellent!

Hopefully Vodafone will consider flagship stores in other major cities too. (this also prompt TelstraClear to consider to have their flagship store in Christchurch as well).

About time, this was always an annoyance that to look at how a phone worked, they had to grab a new one (with about 20 seconds battery life), or find someone in the store that owned one that they didn't mind you playing.

Haven't been in there yet, I'd probably end up wanting a new phone..

Ahh this is the one they have just finished refurbishing?
I was down Lambton Quay on Tuesday afternoon, didn't notice a thing - I'll drop by for a look tomorrow!

I think more stores like this will come out in New Zealand and overseas. Also an "opening" promo seems to be in the cards:

To celebrate opening week, the Vodafone Warriors and mountain runner Melissa Moon will be in-store on Saturday 9 December. Customers will be able to get great deals on mobiles and 3G broadband – but only in-store at 358 Lambton Quay until Sunday 10 December.

The Wellington flagship store, supported by local architects Novac and Middleton, is the first of the new global-look stores planned for New Zealand, with more stores to be opened over the coming year.

I went in and had a look this afternoon - was very nice, though I thought it might have been bigger from the photos in the OP. Friendly staff, great to be able  to play with a wide range of handsets. I hope they put out all their accessories / extras though, as I was interested in an accessory, saleswoman went out back, had a look, and only had one option available :/.

Other than that, brilliant store. Very busy when I was in there for about 10-15min, sold about 4~5 new phones just in that period.
