Every time I request an account balance I first get a SPAM message about supa prepay even thou I'm already using supa prepay.

The spam message seems to turn up almost instantly while the account balance can take 20 minutes.

In a world where we're currently fighting SPAM, do others think it should be ok for Vodafone to spam you with product ads that have nothing to do with the operational use of your mobile?

Cheers Don

Even worse if Vodafone spamming their customers at 1am.

My mum wasn't very impressed receiving a message from Vodafone at this time the other morning!

And yes the phone was switched on blah blah and was within coverage the whole time so it wasn't a case of the SMSC delaying delivery.

Yes I noticed that as well.  I got a SPAM from them at ~ 2am.

I'd actually just used by phone, so I'm wondering if some one's done some smart programming to make sure you're actually paying attention to your phone before they send the SPAM?

Frankly I think it's very poor form.

Cheers Don

Agreed!  When you text a BALance request to 777, you just want the info you asked for, not a whole lot of other spam that you've already had before Yell.

I havent gotten any other texts back, but so many times recently I have texted bal to 777 and not gotten a reply back at all, and I have called 777 and pressed 1 then 1 then 1 again and that just gives me the menus again that I have often had absolutly _no_ idea how much I have left on that sim card.

Because you have to register to use it. I have given up registering because I can never remember what details I have given them which makes it really hard to do things like call up to get voicemail removed everytime they decide to put it back on for no good reason.

What did Vodafone say when you contacted them and asked them to stop?

Everytime I have tried in the past to go on there, its shunted me off to the register your details for another $10 airtime scam they have going on.

Even when I call them they want a name to put on the account, its quite annoying since the whole reason for being prepay is that it is anonymous, and making stuff up to give them means I need to remember it.

And on several of my cards I do forget my number, I have it written on them but it inevitably rubs off and I have to make a call to get the number off caller id if I havent saved it in the simcards phonebook.

It is?

Don't be surprised if within the next year you lose your prepay connection if you're unwilling to give Vodafone (or Telecom) your details for your account to remain active.

What is this supposed to do? Last time I texted something that I was told was "free" it ended up subscribing me to some stupid wallpaper thing that I couldnt even use on my handset, so if you dont mind, I will pass for now ;)

You mean like they take your details in australia to get on prepay? Heh, just go into any asian market and there are people selling pre-registered one.

I just dont give them my details as its more convineient that way. If I have to, I will just keep a list of number and details I have given them. No biggie.

There is no pleasing some people!!!

Do you think I would advise you to do this if it was going to cost you!!! look up the word free

If you TXT number to 521 you will get a TXT back from vodafone advising you of your mobile number at no cost!!

Because it's easier to check from your phone than logging onto their website.

Simple.
