Caught the following item

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/3/story.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10418410

Since I understand TCL sends TV1 and TV2 pictures obtained from Sky, does that mean if you are TCL subscribers, you will also no longer see regional ads? Not that I actively watch ads but when I do I would prefer to see something for a service I can actually obtain locally than something available only in Auckland.

That made me also wonder about TV3. According to the article TV3 does not deliver regional ads on its satellite programming but since TCL doesn't use the satellite feed for TV3 but grabs the signal off air, do ChCh TCL customers see Wellington regional ads or does TCL grab off air both in Wellington and Ch Ch?

Not that I pay much attention to ads on free to air channels, but i think it does show chch ads on TCL's TV3, same wise for TVNZ One and 2 too. To some extend I think Sky1 and Prime does the same too, chch ads... I don't know... Don't really pay much attention on ads unless the ad is really catchy.

Also, I think TCL may negotiate with TVNZ to get One and 2 on TCL's saturn network.

I believe TCL switch to sat for TV3 and C4 once these become available FTA..when that happens is anybody's guess at present. Once that happens you'll probably get the same feed that Sky presently has for TV3 and C4.

Regional advertising is going to suffer but if that means no more ad's for Parke and Clarke (and Wgtn viewers will know what I mean!) it can't be that bad! :-)

A company i work for organised regional adds to appear on TV3 around 6 months ago, we only asked for them to be on the free to air as thats all we could afford. We have saturn and the adds appeared on that, aswell as on SKY and free to air.

I can't wait till they get a satellite feed for TV3 - their current signal is really hard to view on a large TV.

As for Parke and Clarke, well I have seen their work and I was not impressed!  I went elsewhere myself

If you watch TV to see the ads then you need help.

At least now valuble transponder space is not been wasted on three streams of TVOne and TV2 simply for ads. Even though TVNZ will loose quite some revenue from this, Auckland is the major market and the rest is small fry, still big $$ as stake from what the article says.

"If you watch TV to see the ads then you need help."

Then the 40 odd new clients we got as a direct response to the adverts "need serious help".
And the fact that our website had around a 300% increase in traffic, points out that regional adds still work especially for smaller companies.

In saying that i am the same as chiefie unless its catchy i wont watch it.

I guess my point is that ads are valid and succesful marketing tools, but if as a viewer you get your nickers in a twist about a lack of  ads then I am sure I am not alone in saying you've missed the point.

The less ads the better, bring it on!

Since having MySky, I never watch anything live by choice.  Then I can FFWD thru the ads at 30x.  You don't even notice who/what the ads are promoting at that speed.

The future of advertising is in the on-line arena where the response can be directly measured.  As a viewer, you also have the choice of which (if any) ads you click on or not.  It's a far superior system to the old-fashioned "broadcast" approach.

Regional ads will still exist but only in the terrestial markets, and then only in reduced market segments in the final outcome, the following link is what advert co's will understand of the changes.

But presumably we can still Parke and Clarke on TV3 since that is a terrestrial feed :-)
