I have recently purchased a vodem and then realised that it doesn't work with Vista (duh!). I have been researching around and have found that the company that makes the vodem (Huawei) has now officially released some beta drivers for it in vista 32.

There is an excellent discussion on the topic here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=65648
And the official beta drivers can be found here http://www.mtn.co.za/?pid=272898

Has anyone tried the Huawei drivers out? It sounds like plenty of people are having success with it outside of NZ but I am interested to hear if anyone has successful got it working on Vista 32 on the Vodafone network.

Cheers
DK

The latest Vodafone VMC software works on Vista 32 and it supports the Vodem if I am not wrong?

the VMC software is for the cards and VMC Lite is for the vodem.... i think... both now should have vista support. somewhere on vodafones website you can find the lastest versions to download and they allso will tell you which you need depending on the model of card you have.

Good luck!

I would be cautious using the Huawei drivers..

These drivers update the firmware on the E220 also and from what I have read elsewhere may corrupt your ability to connect to the New Zealand T3G network properly.

E220 supports 900/1800/1900 GSM and 2100 WCDMA/HSDPA

T3G will be 850mhz so still no go

Curious... What's ROFL?

Is there anyone from Vodafone out there who knows when an update for the E220 is due?

In the mean time, I'm using my Nokia 6234 and sim card from Vodem, via data cable.  Seems to work OK - another question which I can't find an answer to.. Is there any difference in transfer speeds between Nokia DKU-2 and CA-53 cables?

Cheers

ROFL = Rolling on The floor and Laughing. probably because of your comment about the vodem connecting to T3G - which it will never do because T3G is Telecom's brand for its CDMA EVDO network and the vodem is compatible with Vodafone's HSDPA network only.

Yep - nothing there yet.

I use VMC ver 7 on my XP machine and that works great with my Vodem (more stable than VMC Lite methinks).

Have tried VMC 9.1 with Vista but it does not look like it supports the Vodem.  Never mind - I'm sure Vista drivers are not far away.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the answers and thoughts.

Have gone through the www.business.vodafone.com site and it looks like VMC has been upgraded to support Vista - but it still currently doesn't support the Vodem (E220).  I even tried installing the latest VMC (9.1) to confirm that it doesn't work.  It doesn't detect the vodem device

If you go here http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/general/microsoft/vista/30_modem/p_modem.jsp
it states that the new software that support the vodem will be available in March 2007.  So hopefully we will all have it soon!

Cheers

OK, just though I'd toss this one in: any Vista 64 bit drivers yet? Either for u630 card or Vodem, even a beta driver would be good to try.
