A word of warning to those of you who have ported your landline numbers since April 1:

I just received a call from a customer this morning, saying:

"Have you guys closed down or changed your name or something?"

This was because the 018 Directory Service told him that our number was disconnected... Yell

Obviously, this is not the impression we want to give customers, so I was at pains to assure him that, no, nothing had changed except our Telco.

1)  Straight away I called Telecom Directories who told me it was Telecom's problem, and so I would have to talk to them.

2)  Called Telecom Business on 126 who straight away picked up that the line used to be rented via TCL, so we would have to talk to them.  Hang on I said, that number is now provided by WorldxChange, not TCL.  Oh well, you'll have to talk to them then.  There is one service order that needs to be filled out by the provider of the phone number which is then sent to Telecom Directories, thus ensuring your listing in the White Pages AND the 018 service.

So, IT IS Telecom Directories who provide both services then?, I asked.  Yes. one common database he said.

3)  So I called Telecom Directories again who sheepishly admitted that Yes, they provide both the 018 service and the White Pages.  So, how come my listing is still in the On-line White Pages, but not on 018 I asked?

The person I spoke to admitted he had never struck this situation before and then offered to submit a listing request for my ported number as though it was a paid listing, because after all, I still have one Telecom Business line, which entitles me to that listing.

I have to check the 018 directory again after more than 48 hours to see if this has taken effect.  Fingers crossed Undecided

Hi Grant,

Thanks for this feedback, I have forwarded off this info to our processes guy to check how this should have been handled and or if we missed something as well reguarding this, will advise if we uncover anything of interest.

Thanks Phil,

If there is a way this situation could be handled together with the rest of the Porting Process, that would be awesome Smile

Because I still have another Telecom line, I figure that Telecom Directories owe me a free listing, but this doesn't help others who only have one line.

I will be interested to hear what you find, regardless of the outcome.

The thing that annoyed me was Telecom Directories' initial refusal to take ownership of the problem, even though we have an additional PAID White Pages listing with them as well.  Fobbing customers off is not a good look, especially when we have spent around $20,000 with them over the years Money mouth

Yes Grant, we are looking at it now and have already started talking to a few people on this, we need to talk to a few more and possibly back to the Number Porting working party to confirm a few things, our Rep on the number porting working party is away for a  couple of weeks on a hard earned rest break....he's been working pretty hard on this for a few years now Laughing , we will advise what should happen when we confirm a few more things may take a few days though, things move a little slower through other organisations Innocent

I think in general the important thing to remember when porting a fixed or mobile line, only the number is  transferred to the GSP (or Gaining Service Provider) and not the services that you currently have with your LSP (or Loosing Service Provider).

A directory listing is after all a service? Perhaps this will change when the YPG deal is finally completed.

Still going through Channels on this ...no update for you as yet sorry.  This could take a while as well I'm afraid until we get exact clarification but as soon as we can confirm you will be next to know.

That's OK Phil.  I have confirmed earlier today -- by phoning the 018 service -- that our number is once again listed.

So, no worries on my account, but it would be good to have a well-defined procedure for future customers who want to Port In to VFX from Telecom.

Ring your service provider, or Whitepages (Yellow Pages Group).

There is an actual process that hasn't been picked up during the trial process so there are a few things going on in the back ground at the moment to fully work out the processes....this will be effecting all parties to LNP..it will take a bit of time sorry but will let you know when the process is confirmed.

nzbnw: Ring your service provider

If you ring your Service Provider, this is most likely what will happen:

If you can't wait for "The Process to be confirmed"...

The best idea is to phone Yellow Pages Group directly.  You will probably need to pay a $23 listing fee unless you have another Telecom line somewhere which entitles you to a free listing.

If you only have a VFX number, the listing will most likely be chargeable, but Hey..., $23 is not too bad for a year.  I have paid this fee in order to have my Vodafone Mobile number listed, because we don't have a landline at one of our properties.  If you have another Telecom account, they will charge it to that, but if you don't, you will probably have to pay by Credit Card.
