I posted this earlier today and it seems to have disappeared so will try again.
my existing River plan is slow on the upload so no good for Voip calling. Tests from my modem to the Cambridge exchange (less than 1k away) show 7616 down and 160 up. (Perfect) Tests to World Exchange speed test shows 4.08 to 4.20 down and from 60k to 71k up. The Help Desk did some tests and it is a "backhaul" problem.
Before I spend $16 per month to upgrade can anyone who has upgraded already tell me will things improve by upgrading? (ie) if it is 60-71k on the River plan is data managed on the backhaul to give better speed or is 60 to 71k full speed?
If my first post suddenly  appears  it may look a bit different so being a bit wiser i will save this one before sending. Cheers George

Hmmm...  if the Backhaul is your limiting factor, then changing to the Flood plan probably won't make much difference.

However, it's the first time I've heard of backhaul being responsible for limiting the Upstream speed to a paltry 60 - 71kbps.  Downstream speed is frequently limited by the backhaul and 4.1Mbps is nothing to be sneezed at, it's still pretty good.

I would say, give it a go and Xnet can always change you back again if it makes no difference.

Currently the Flood plan connected to Avondale exchange is giving me 1377kbps down and 416kbps up with an 83ms ping.  These figures were obtained using https://www.speedtest.net/

Dunno what's up with it because last time I tested, it was 5500kbps down and 500kbps up or thereabouts.  Must be some congestion happening at our exchange I guess.

Like I say, try it and see how you go.  I'm guessing you will be pleased at the improvement even if you only get 400kbps or so upstream speed like I am at present...

just tried your speedtest.net site...I get 4600 down and 125 up from Auckland.
Tried World Exchange site ( http://speedtest.xport.co.nz/ ) and now get 4.28m down  and 87.8k up.(best I have seen! )
I was worried that if when restricted to 128k I got 60 to 71k then full speed would make no difference.
I would be rapt with 400+k !

Speedtest.net is the most reliable benchmarking site in my experience.  It roughly ties in with what I see locally using DU Meter on my PC.

So...  if Speedtest.net is giving you 4600kbps down and 125kbps up on the River plan, you are going to get a HUGE increase in Upstream speed with the Flood Plan!  I would be extremely surprised if that's not the case, so I would say to go for it and let me know what result you get Cool

Cheers,
Grant.

a  bit of a mission but now OK.
initially after upgrading I got 6500 down and 128 up and it would not budge  any  way.
World Exchange Support were very helpful and directed changes. I removed all routers etc and ended up with modem direct to my PC. (still no good). changed the PC ....still no good. (World exchange support rightfully wanted to make sure all options were tried).World exchange  then escalated fault to Telecom.
Restored everything to normal and retested to see it worked...6600 dowm and 797 up. Tried direct to PC again from modem..still OK. Restored to normal still OK.
All I can say is ..****** ****. Dont know what happened but it now works OK.
Beats me but i am sure World Exchange Support did a professional job of eliminating posabilities.
I will leave alone for a while....

Those speeds ROCK !!!  Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

You must be pretty happy with that.  Sounds to me as though there was a configuration issue with your DSLAM port at your nearest exchange or roadside cabinet.  The Upstream speed hadn't been altered yet, or the DSLAM port needed resetting -- something like that anyway...

What really matters is the speeds you are getting now.  I haven't seen anything much better and that Upstream speed is fair smoking at 797kbps -- definitely the best I have heard of on ADSL Laughing

Enjoy!
