Have been trying this out lately.

Go to  http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html

I am using it on a K800i on the Vodafone network on a 3G plan.  Works pretty well. I can enter a street name and suburb and the choices are generally on the spot and the resulting map is good enough for when you might get lost driving around and need some directions to get to where you want to go. Choose driving instructions for points I know well and the instructions seemed accurate.

Great they can provide the service for free (apart from data charges of course) and on so many platforms

I've got both Google Maps and Microsoft's Live Search on my Windows Mobile and they are both excellent at providing maps, and finding businesses you search for, etc. Just watch your data charges when you're overseas!

Have you tried MGMaps?

It can use Google Maps too (and many other maps) plus you can connect it for example with your GPS and use it for following your movements. I tried with my N95 and it works great.
