Hi George,
I send faxes quite a lot in the course of my day-to-day dealings with overseas suppliers and also to/from our Auckland office.
First point: If you still have a landline (as most people must for ADSL), don't bother changing your current FaxAbility arrangement! $3.50 is a bargain and there is no benefit in changing to VFX at $7.95.
Secondly: Using a fax with a landline is still better than VFX in my experience. For National faxes (within NZ), VFX works OK for outgoing faxes in most cases. You still need to check each fax went through correctly because there is the occasional failure. I haven't tried incoming because I use a fax to e-mail service. For International faxes however, VFX is no good at all. I still send all my International faxes via our sole-surviving Telecom line for this reason.
If you have a wireless or TCL cable connection for your internet, and don't require to send International faxes, then the situation is completely different, and VFX will work well for your faxes.
A case of horses for courses...
Cheers,
Grant.
bspondre: Hi Grant
Could I ask for your recommendations on a fax to email service?
bspondre: Looking on the WorldsXChange site they seem to have a range of modem/routers: is there one which is better suited to faxing?
