Aha, I wondered why the Caller ID doesn't display until after the first ring. With iTalk it always used to display before the first ring. Thanks for explaining that mystery

That's right, I played around with those settings a while ago & discovered this. I had my phone setup with its inbuilt "distinctive ring". Would begin to ring normally, then once the ID came through, would change the ring type. This setting fixed it, though I do believe there are some issues with ETSI, not sure what though. I think is is a EU standard, where as NZ use Bellcore

I also used ETSI FSK when I was with iTalk for the same reason i.e. Caller ID is available BEFORE the first ring.

For some reason, VFX insists on using the Bellcore protocol. I know that my Uniden phones work with either protocol, but maybe ETSI FSK is not that widely supported. It would be nice if we had the choice of which Caller ID protocol setting is used in our ATAs.

Maverick: What is the reason VFX insists on using Bellcore protocol for Caller ID?

If ETSI FSK is not that widely supported

well for now for me all is ok I live in Ontario Canada and I'm on VOIP and then all the problem came out but all the time it's Bell ther formular is backward I beleive

OK now my modem and software display phone number and names but with setting to ETSI FSK cure the problem but my home phone does not display anymore

that is all my phone and both line line 1 and line 2 2 diffrent provider any suggestion
Now I got ETSI FSK and bell 202 setting
Help anyone I live in Canada Ontario

Sorry Missed this post,

The reason we use this particular method is that it is the most reliable , yes ETSI FSK is an option and generates the Call ID a little quicker however there are a number of phones that actually do not work with this an example of a very popular phone that dosn't work is the Uniden 3215, so we always provision on the most reliable settings. Once again this can come down to support issues , since Caller ID is pretty important to most people if they start changing things then it can generate support calls etc, happy to talk to people directly here that are more techinically savy but what we try to do is to reduce the number of support calls so if Caller ID just works then we will save ourselves some time on the phone. Hope that explains it

The CallerId setting is a Global Setting so it effects both lines sorry, depending on where you are and what type of phones you have they may work with Both Standards or only one, since you are offshore the standards being used here may not work with the phones you have this will also apply to the Line Settings (Impedence) for the Line, be happy to look at letting you control the method if this helps

I got a modem Aopen FMEXV and did work fine on Bell But on the PAP2T did not display call some time display only one time did have to reboot and even that just work one time on any program to display call ID..so when I see to change to ETSI FSK did cure problem I was happy BUT it true it does not workon original Bell phone and Uniden but it those display on Motorola 5.8 all the time
