Everyone I talk to about VoIP is pretty amazed that you can run phone calls over the Internet.

frio: ...when I eventually save the pennies to get a PAP2T...
sbiddle: I still think one of the coolest things is being able to use a WiFI handset, connect to a WiFi hotspot anywhere in the world and make calls as though you are in NZ and only pay WiFi charges. With Nokia handsets now supporting WiFi and SIP and Boingo Mobile now available on Symbian handsets for around NZ$10 per month the ability to roam around the world and avoid high mobile roaming prices for is now a reality. The only limiting factor is bandwidth and QoS which are always going to be issues but I spent a lot of time in July using both Azure and Telstra hotspots in Aussie and had no problems at all. I'm planning on heading over the UK and Europe again early next year and am looking forward to playing with Boingo Mobile.

The whole remote extension is one of the coolest features, I know when I answer the work phone from home people think I'm in Newmarket.
The coolest thing we've done is with call redirects - if I miss a call through my DDI and it redirects to mobile, I get the original caller ID rather than the office number. Very handy for seeing who is calling.
sbiddle: This is how CID is supposed to work when forwarded! I gather this is still broken on some of the NEAX switches and Centrex?

All of the companies I've presented to, that have had the forward to mobile service, have been impressed that VoIP can forward the original caller ID. Maybe I just hit all the businesses who have their PBXs incorrectly setup!
Second cool feature, multiple external extension ringing. If all my techies are out n about, using VoIP (and our Quadro) our support calls ring all of their mobiles simultaneously. Whoever answers their phone first gets the call.
Now that's cool.
