Can anyone tell me if WxC / Xnet give you free National/local traffic?? Or do they count National/local traffic towards your monthly cap?

If WxC / Xnet give you free National/local traffic?? Would that include traffic to Maxnet / Webdrive servers (which are both based here in Auckland)???

Also do WxC / Xnet traffic shape FTP? (Like what Xtra does (I am currently on Xtra (Go Large))

There pricing model is very simple, buy a connection, then pay as you go for data, barring VOIP traffic on their VFX/DFX Service all data is the same to them and is charged at $1/GB.

If you are looking at shifting serious amounts of data to one site locally it's probably best to find a ISP with local traffic for free, but I find the peace of mind of a low price and simple costings to be much easier.

Traffic local to the XNet network is free, so e-mails, VFX packets, private home pages, XNet speed test, the WxC-hosted game server (Recoil?) etc. is free.

You only pay for national (i.e. non-XNet) and international data, all at the same price. And yes it is $1 per GB, but it is not 1GB data blocks. So more accurately, you pay 1c per 0.01GB (the invoice is actually to fractions of a cent).

You can never have enough Volvos!

Perhaps someone at WxC can give a proper reply.

This paragraph is about phone billing to point out they use fractions of a cent even though it is rounded on the invoice, the next paragraph comes back to data usage charges: If I add up all the phone calls charges on my bill then it does not come out to the same as the total. It is as if they take e.g. the 5c per minute call rate, subtract GST which comes to 4.444444c per minute and list the GST-exclusive cost per call rounded to the nearest 1c, and then for the total they use the un-rounded cost. This means you can have 2 calls of 4.44444c each listed as $0.04 each but it adds up to $0.09. Then GST is added and the total becomes $0.10 which is correct.

That is how it appears on my bill for phone calls, and for data usage appears to be charged the same. Having another look at my bill the last one actually states 540 MB at $0.001/MB so yes they do count it in fractions of a cent.

Phone charges appear to be rounded to 5c because all charges are multiples of 5c. But I see what you mean. All my bills are also rounded to 5c even after data cost is added. I would love for WxC to expand on this. I had no noticed it before, because the direct debit discounted amount is not rounded. Surely rounding to the nearest 5c is only applicable to cash transactions?

Never thought about it before but I guess your right. Unless such rounding is actually stipulated somewhere then for electronic payments they should be charging to the cent. Should probably be easy enough to fix in their invoicing engine though - sure Mav will be on it in the morning.

You pay for whatever data you use outside of local traffic so in short we dont shape ports in the manner the all you can eat plans do.

I have never heard any reports of WxC / Xnet shaping traffic. Basically, there is no point because you pay for whatever you use @ $1 per GB (except for VFX and Local e-mail traffic). Why would Xnet want to restrict the amount of data you can use? It is in their interests for you to use as much as possible

Secondly, I have a friend who has recently moved to Xnet from Woosh at my recommendation. He does quite a bit of P2P downloading using Bit Torrents. There are no signs of any traffic shaping for BT either, unlike Woosh's Orbit Flat-rate plan and Xtra Go Large

No problems paying for the data I use, but my bill states "$0.001 per MB" while the measured data appears to always be rounded to 10 MB which means your charge is $0.01 per 10 MB not $0.001 per 1 MB.

Furthermore it appears that automatic payments are rounded to 5c just like cash payments. If it is so, then that is wrong.

As Phil has said so many times, billing is the hardest part of the job. I'm simply pointing out a few things, still think you guys do a great job. The first can be seen as false advertising and the second as stealing, not that it bothers me but it might bother some people.

Stealing? Well, correct I suppose, but I don't think xnet are out to get you 2/3/4c at a month! Especially if they use swedish rounding.

I would suggest who every wrote the billing app, rounded it for cash payments, and they then used this as batch data for the electronic payments, instead of having two different amounts depending on payment type. Easier, cheaper and cleaner.

I'm South African, we are direct/blunt. No time for playing games. Not intended in a negative/bad way. I do not mind myself, have better things to worry about, but with the number of XNet customers it might add up to more than my salary increase (being sarcastic, my colleagues will understand).
