I have noticed then when moving a large volume of files between machines on my LAN that it renders incoming calls (and possible outgoing, haven't tested) inaudible at this end (and perhaps the other).

Server running ClarkConnect
PC running winXPSp2
Router WAG54GP2

I'm guessing it has to be a router issue, but would appreciate any advice on how to diagnose and subsequently fix.

Try connecting a network switch to the router, and run all your network devices off that. That should reduce the traffic going through the WAG. However, I would agree with you, the WAG is suppose to handle the QoS of it's VoIP ports, so maybe a fault, or bad design?

Yes I will second that! In the early days of VoIP we used a router with in-built switch and it more-or-less killed VoIP conversations when local network file transfers were going on. Installed a cheap 5-port switch and Voila! Problem solved.

It may be a bit out of your budget but I highly recommend the CNet CSH 2400W switches if you're after a new one. They are a 24 port rackmount but are a bargain at around $150ish and has web management, ToS support and QoS priority. I have one of these at home and love it.

I'm sure I have a switch lying around somewhere but if not I'll take a look at the CNet switch. PCWise have it listed for 105.60 plus GST which doesn't seem at all bad.

That is probably the 2400 model (not the W) that doesn't have web management or ToS/QoS

Pretty odd since the switching should be handled by a seperate IC and not generate any processor interrupts. Also you would have though normal use of the unit would have shown this during testing, perhaps the unit is configure out of the usual in some manner.

Should is the keyword here. How much you want to bet cheaper routers don't have separate circuits, etc?

I run my LAN off of a switch, and only have my PAP2T connected directly to the router... Actually I have to change it to have the PAP2T directly to the Internet and the router behind it instead - but this is another story.

Are you experiencing Voice Breakup during heavy network traffic Mauricio?

I'm just curious to know what prompted this comment.
