Has WxC / Xnet's stunning products, service and pricing once again caused too many people to move to them hindering speed for all?

So far confirmed 200 - 300 kbps download both Pukekohe and Taranaki - or is it just an Ookla speedtest issue?

Consistent 240kbps speedtests across 3 different speed testers (ookla and 2 others) :-(

Hopefully it's all nice and 6Mbps+again tomorrow!!

I have ADSL2+ enabled on my line, but no speed gain over when it was ADSL1. Sync with exchange is 10Mbps, before ADSL2+ it was about 8Mbps sync. WxC says that Telecom enabled ADSL2+ but still running ADSL1 profiles.

My phone line is still an overhead cable. There are ADSL junction boxes along my road, but it appears that you get connected to those only if you get a new underground cable installed (or so it appears, my overhead line goes to the other side of the road while an ADSL junction box is on my side of the road). I'm in Edgewater and would love to hear if others in my area are getting decent speeds (like 6Mbps or more). There is nothing wrong with my installation, I am sure I am being limited by the exchange.

Note that ADSL2+ is not really about high speed. You can get high speeds if you are close to the exchange, but rather it is about reaching further with the same length cable. This is because the transmitting power is dynamically controlled to be just enough to maintain the connection rather than simply running at full transmitting power. This means that people closer to the exchange generate less crosstalk than if they were using ADSL1. ADSL2+ also uses double the frequency spectrum for double the speed, but that works only if you are really close to the exchange due to the higher signal loss at higher frequencies.

Anyway, we are taking over this topic which is not very nice... So no, WxC is keeping their speed up and can handle all the new customers.

And now it is me keeping this off topic... Sorry, but it does fit in with the discussion around speeds. Just quickly want to add that the other reason/possibility why my speed is 3.5Mbps is because my upload is only 128k which means that the rate at which TCP/IP acknowledge packets can be returned is limiting my download speed. Apparently I can not get more than about 4.5Mbps due to that. Will be going to Fusion as soon as there is a smooth path for porting my number.

If you do the TcpAckFrequency tweak, you can easily negate that limit.
However, it increases latency and makes it take longer for a download to reach top speed.

On original topic:
Unless they buy more bandwidth, I'd be amazed if we don't see a slowdown.

11500kbps sync and 7.9mbit in speed tests, in pratical applications I see a constant 950k/s bursting to 1mb/s at times. This has improved by about 150-200k/s since I switched routers (LINKSYS VOIP one) and changed to naked dsl.

This is by far the most impressive speeds I have expereienced in New Zealand.
