Hi all

just wondering what others are finding with those accounts having Dynamic IP asignments.

At the moment (for the last 2 days atleast) Im getting 4-5 new IP Addresses being set each day during work hours and its starting to really slack me off.

I work from home and the period whilst the router gets itself all set up again, and then my SBS Server DNS sorts itself out really stuffs things up. Previously at WorldNet had no such dramas and was able to hold VPN's to my servers in a data centre as well as various connections (eg SQL Ent Manager), but it seems to be symptomatic of XNet.

Is this something XNet are doing, could it be something on the line etc?

It will pick up a new IP if the router resets for some reason or the connection is dropped. Find out and sort why this is happening and it should hold the IP for alot longer

Over XMas it went for weeks without a new IP Address, but of recent its been going nuts.
Its a Dynalink RTA1320 with the new Firmware applied. Will go through the Logs and see if anything shows ... but just wondered if there was someone at XNet with too much time on their hands clicking the reset connection button :)

Do you really expect them to admit it if they were hitting the reset button?

How long how you had the new firmware? Has this been happening since you updated it?

No ... was wondering if the Router make/model had tendencies to lock up on the ethernet interface, and its been pretty good since. But yes, this was happening periodically prior.

I have this RTA1320 modem with firmware 3.30j and while it is as solid as a rock (literally weeks connected) on my connection in "PPP IP Extension" Mode (aka Half-Bridge/Zip-B/DHCP Spoofing mode or whatever you want to call it) I can't say for it's performance in it's standard router configuration.

Are you been able to determine whether the ADSL or PPP connection has been dropping? And if it is the ADSL, have you noticed any difference in the stats? (i.e. fluctuating line rates, bad SNR/attenuation, etc).

(alternatively get a static IP address which will mean you get the same IP everytime)
