So apparently Vodafone have run out of static IP address for fibre connection, and no ETA to have any available for allocation. What the hell?

I understand that their fibre has a different range to that of xDSL, but still kind of shocking.

Anyone from the inside can shed light on this?

dont they still slam you with the whole $20 hosting package for a static ip too?

Just an update, as I was called by Vodafone T2 support, static IP address can be transferred. I was misinformed.

I think there is additional charge for static IP, but I'm not sure if that applies to all plans.

They're free on business plans.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

It is going to happen eventually, even the big NZ ISPs will run out of IPv4 addresses.

It seems neither of the 400kg gorillas of the NZ ISP scene are really preparing for this, their public stance appears as if they have never heard of IPv6.

I understand that IP4v addresses will run out eventually, but I'm just shocked that it's happened to Vodafone for a particular service, so quickly and without notice.

Yeah, no preparation what so ever...

That's not entirely the case.

I know for a fact Spark could easily double their customers before they'd run out of IPv4 space. Most of the older ISPs have plenty of space - it's new players that don't.

Just checked the static IP ranges here at VF. At least I did for the business ones. I don't know about consumer. There are plenty there on the platform business fibre use.

Is you connection a business connection or consumer?

It's UFB on a business account. However I wouldn't be surprised if the connection was classified as a consumer.

If you want go to https://community.vodafone.co.nz. Look up the user TimC. You will see that user is tagged as staff. Send a message with the UFB username to that name. Please do not send it to this account through GZ this is my personal account and I don't act as VF rep here.

If it is a business UFB connection and therefore on the platform I'm familar with I can give it a static IP.

My guess is if it is a business connection then the CSR you spoke to got confused or misinformed. A while back there were seperate pools of IP's for xDSL and fibre. I'm told this changed and now agents should be selecting IP's from the same pools. I don't actually work in that area anymore myself.
