I have been with Vodafone for years and the last two years on the old warspeed/ 100mbps Up / 10 mbps downstream Cable network service

and am looking at upgrading to Fibre so I can take advantage of the faster upstream speeds at 20mbps and because I am streaming live video feeds off shore to the USA all the speed helps =)

Is it true that Cable customers will not be offered Fibre connection even if its available in the area ( main priority for me is connection and speed for upstreaming live video feed to the USA )

any help much appreciated

Yep it's true. No Vodafone fibre in existing cable areas.

As mentioned in the other thread - just get fibre with another provider.

So, what does this mean? They are digging up our road at the moment for fibre, and I am on Vodafone cable looking forward to getting it. So I can't upgrade to a fibre connection with them? If I go with spark, how do I get all the TV stations? It would be hard to give up Zone TV.

if you want fibre and are with vodafone, you cant. you need to change your ISP to someone other than vodafone. Vodafone are the only ones with do a TV service so if you want to keep that you need to stay with them. YOu could always just get a normal TV with freeview and watch the 20 odd channels they have there.

Chorus are digging up your road not vodafone

Could you not just get tv with Sky through them instead of through Vodafone and then get Internet and phone if you need it through Spark

from what I see Sky tv is the same price through them directly and you will be considered a new customer and get there new promotions?

I think the idea is to have it bundled on the one bill, not pay six different providers separately.

Well, 2, yes. But bundling used to be really big here (I guess you're American, right?) in the 1990s and early 2000s, and most people just went with Xtra "to have it all on the one bill". Now that's not such a big thing. Telstra Saturn (now Vodafone) capitalised on this, giving you the option of telephone/internet/cable TV on the one bill.

I'm on VF cable Freeview - standard definition only,

"Free" actually costs $15 per month for the "digital TV recorder" .

NOT a bargain. I intend to cancel soon.

Leave Vodafone.

They must have changed that because when I had cable TV (admittedly, in 2001) there was no charge like that.

2001 was well before the Vodafone takeover.

Last month I priced getting Fibre + Phone through Spark and Sky through, well, Sky. Once you added on the HD ticket and the extra cost for the MySky HDI box etc. one ends up paying about $30 more a month. (This is from memory so figure might be a bit different but it would cost more)

I know. Those were the "good old (Telstra Saturn cable) days" I remember seeing a 2Mb/s connection and thinking it was like lightning - which it was after years of dialup!
