Have followed all guidelines for installation, installed the router first with the cd then the modem with the supplied cd. All I get is virtually nothing though, every minute or so the internet comes on for a second or two then goes off, my flats going crazy not having a phone line and XNET never answer my calls for assistance because their phones are overloaded constantly.

Read a post earlier about modem signal strength attenuation, and if it drops below 7 you could lose the connection but don't know how to check that. Don'tthink this is the case though as I can configure my Netgear modem +router to work fine.

Second problem, reset both router and modem and went through installation steps manually through the browser based setup. Dropped windows the other day and the setup wiz cd doesn't work with linux with the software I have installed so didn't have a choice.

Got the same thing through manual setup. Modem shows DSL connection but the internet only connects for a few minutes or so. Also when I start screwing around with settings the modem and router lock me out of accessing them through the browser.

I've read quite a few posts with people having problems setting up modem+router with voip but none with the router or modem I have and they seem to know what they're doing a little more than me.

Appreciate any help greatly! not too keen on calling linksys after reading the response and rigmarol a fellow user had to go through when enquiring about a similar issue with them.

Cheers

Sam

Your first step would be to make sure you have set up the modem correctly, right modulation and VCI setup, modulation would need to be g.dmt

Xnet HSI Settings

Login: yourusername@adsl.xnet.co.nz

PPP Setting: PPP over ATM (RFC2364) VCMUX encapsulation

VPI Setting:0

VCI Setting: 100

I should set the router before the modem right, or does it not matter as long as they both have the correct settings.

Setup the modem only and get that working for internet, then add the router.  That way you know the modem is definately configured correctly and working.
