hello

well i was very disappointed to learn today that i couldn't use the 0900 numbers with my vfx service i did look at the vfx service features when i decided to join ,i thought there  was a  option there that u can turn the 0900 service of and on thinking that i joined up ....but today i really needed to use the 0900 number i rang up xnet helpline only to be told i cannot use this service i explained very carefully that i need this service  as this 0900 number is  used for a billing service on  picking up dead cows
after some time on hold i was told again we cannot provide it ....

i then turned to my vodaphone cellphone, there 0900 service is blocked too

only one option left  either go back to telecom home line or call from dads place who lives near ...

i don't want to leave the vfx service either as i like it heaps

in this modern age its unbelievable i cannot get this service on or even for just that one  number

potentially this bad for a vfx service  there r thousands of farmers who use this service with no 0900 support no one will join

disappointed

0900 support from VFX was discussed here last year.

To quote Phil from WxC

You will not be able to dial 0900 at present as it's not supported, the issue with 0900's is the billing is done after the fact and we have no arrangements to get the exact billing, each 0900 could be charged at a different so there are some issues on how and when we could bill you as a customer.

FYI they are not the only provider who don't support 0900 numbers and it obviously is something that needs to be fixed but there are very good technical reasons why it isn't!

It's not just a WxC problem it is an industry wide problem. Due to the lack of an open interface for real time billing it's impossible for providers to know the cost of an 0900 number in advance and bill accordingly for this. Due to the serious fraud potential most providers choose to block 0900 numbers.

I understand your frustrations, but ignoring 0900 for a sec: Why not suggest to the provider of the service that 0900 is a clunky (and needlessly expensive way) to deliver this service.  Alternatives would be Internet or SMS.  With more customers wanting to move to third party carriers, it will become a big problem for 0900 service providers until TCF does something about a common platform.

That said I think 0900 is a terrible platform and hope it gets abandoned - it causes way too much heartache.

Dead Cows ????....okay so I'm not a framer Laughing

We are just sorting an arrangement now, so we will know the charges in advance and be able to bill correctly and expect to have this up and running by the end of the month

Also I may mention that the support staff will not be aware of this you ar ethe first to be aware of it

Perhaps a similar service could be implemented for picking up dead employees Phil? Laughing

If they're offering an 0900 service for billing, they should offer other methods (like credit card) as well. It's ridiculous to think that they can rely solely on 0900 to collect payment.

Pleased to hear 0900 support is coming though Phil - great work! :)

You can use a Vodafone mobile (Or a Telecom one for that matter) to call 0900 numbers providing a) The phone is postpaid not prepaid and b) You do not have a block on 0900 numbers from that phone. If you are on a Post Paid plan and still can't call 0900 numbers call Vodafone and ask them to remove the block.

I can call 0900 numbers fine from both my Telecom and Vodafone mobiles.
