Hi All,

Like some of you here I have a paltry 3 mb of mobile data which I use solely for email when out and about. To minimise the data use on my connection am I better to:

1. Use Pop3 - download headers only and delete all messages after reading OR

2. Use imap - sync headers only and download messages I require then delete all messages off the server OR

3. Use imap - sync headers and download messages I require and leave messages on the server.

I use vodafone email at the moment which states it uses a GPRS optimiser. Does this effectively cut down on data use?

Cheers,

Matt.

Hi there hairy1,

I also use a smartphone for my day-to-day email contact. I use an VFNZ IMAP account, and download just headers. Then I can choose which messages I want to download and read. I'm not sure whether there'd be much difference in data usage between your options 2 and 3.

I'm not sure that the VFNZ data optimiser is still functional....anybody else help out here??

A great way to save data usage if you want to access the 'net is to download and install Opera Mini 4. Its totally free, an awesome browser, and works through a proxy which compresses the pages to about a tenth their desktop PC sizes. Magic!

Hope this has helped,

George

If your handset supports vodafone live check your vodafone mail through there its free and then if you need to pull your email down to your handset use your email client. Also with vodafone mail dont forget to check the spam folder online from time to time.

I am using Windows Mobile (I should have said that in the first post!) so will stick to imap. I really must get organised with a gprs data monitor so I can keep track of my usage although things have gotten a lot better lately with data balances available via the voice menu on 777.

Cheers.
