40 technology roles to be outsourced including our very own John Reader. Fixer of just about everything.

I'm not sure how Vodafone will cope without him. After seeing how he works and how he has managed to just about fix everything on his own, who even earned the nickname 'vodajohn'. How this outsourced team will cope.

I no longer work for Vodafone but just about to leave a role where he has fixed some of my issues and going into a role where the main customer is Vodafone. I'm hoping that if an issue arises, Someone else will fix the issue as quickly as he has in the past!

If anyone from the executive team is reading this please stop this madness!

I wish him all the best in any role he takes on. Some seriously undervalued talent:-)

We could only hope that, in the best Dilbert style, he is hired back as an outsourced consultant at triple this old salary :D

I'll bet it was an accountant driven decision. They know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Outsourcing, - the best way to lose control of your business.

I firmly believe that any part of your business that is crucial to providing your product or service you need to have full ownership and control over. Otherwise you are very vulnerable to the decisions and actions of the business that has taken on the outsourcing.

This is very disappointing. John has been a huge help to me in the past, and to many other people.

He trained me when I started at VF years ago. He was our network SME. I didn't have a clue at the time what he was going on about but he was really patient and explained things in a way that helped me understand!

Outsourcing does have huge benefits, cost wise. But you don't outsource the glue

While I've only met a handful of other people in the same area when I've been at VF with John it's safe to say they're an incredibly specialised part of the business who pretty much do keep a huge amount of backend stuff working. Lose all that knowledge overnight and you have to start factoring in risk to a business when the knowledge is gone, all to save a few $$ by outsourcing to India.
