Been looking at the forum and other threads regarging teh red network, regardless of the web page and their wait times etc, is any one using the ADSL2+ network that posts here?

If so I just want to know if you guys are having a good experence with it, and how stable is the network? What is the fault turnaround lead time and do you nottice any peek time congestion problems?

Im the the red netwrok zone, but havent been migrated over yet - fingers crossed the CSR at Voda was right when she said about 1 month for migration!

Been having lots of problems streaming live from a UK server and hoping this change might fix that. Thing is, I watch at around 3 or 4am and sometimes in only receive at 100Kbs....which obviously isnt good enough to stream live.....anyone any idea of why it would be so bad?

The website has over 100 members watching, and I seem to be the only one who consistently has bad streams??

Anyone give a review of how things are on the new voda network?

I'd be keen to try the new network, but from reading this thread it seems current ihug customers (like myself) aren't able to transition over yet.

I signed up to move from Orcon - more data (20GB vs 15GB) , a little less $$$ monthly. However, when I checked some of the VF details today this is the info I get for our home address:

*Sorry - your area is within a Vodafone Red Zone however you can't get our
new Red services.**

Oh yay....so the process starts with trying to find out what the hell that means; have the unbundled St Heliers fully or not? etc etc...

I've ordered a Red Network connection at home, but according to the Vodafone website it's only progressed to 'stage 2' (Detail & Credit Check). They are not showing an ETA for installation yet.

I'm guessing I'm a fair way from the exchange at my connection speed at home doesn't ever get much over 2 - 2.5 mbs. So in theory I might not get any improvement on the Red Network anyway. Though on the Red Network map it looked like I'm smack bang in the middle of my local area - so I'm not sure and should fine out how far from the exchange I am.

Hi,

I've been migrated onto the 'red network'. So far the experience have been very good. I had to make some changes around my DSL setup to achieve good results. I've noticed that the stability of the line and sync rates change from CPE to CPE. The splitter also seem to matter much more (standard dlink one was the worst one, but YMMV)
I tried dlink D604T, cisco 877w and huawei HG520s. The best sync speed I get on the huawei, but the dlink follows quite closely. Cisco seem to be the slowest of the bunch, but rock stable. Dlink seem to be the one with the most drops.
Speed-wise I get up to 16Mb/s downloads from places like mirror.ihug.co.nz. Internet speeds are also pretty good (5-6M to the US peak times).
I'm about 1.7km from the exchange.

If you're in the Red Zone but on an exchange that's about to be cabinetised, you get that message as far as I'm aware.

Hi Paul - ok so Telecom are putting in cabinets (as we know). How does that affect VF unbundling the local ex? And if the ex is in the Red Zone it is logical to presume it has been unbundled as that's the whole idea.

Or...are you referring to something VF is doing with cabinets....?

We have no ability to unbundle the cabinet at this stage (that comes with the sub-loop unbundling regulation the ComCom is developing) so we can't offer LLU-based services to those customers.

If you're on an exchange that will be cabinetised soon there's no point moving you over to the Red Network only to have to move you back to wholesale in a few months' time.

ok so DSL speeds will be best available (i.e. not near LLU full speed theoreticals - dep on distance)?
Or in other words, I will be on "std" wholesale DSL for the foreseeable future.....

I'm in a kinda smiler situation, Im on a road side cabinet that has been in place for a while and is not an ADSL2+ Dslam.

Do you have any idea when you will be able to sub-loop unbundle, not looking for a date as such but is it going to happen at all/this year?

Also are Telecom/Chorus going to upgrade all cabinets or is this just not going to happen. If so will you be able to give LLUe to customers that have an adsl 2 dslam road side cabinet

Most of the work is yet to be done by the Commerce Commission... there's no regulation in place regarding sub-loop unbundling so that's all got to be worked out. It's a priority for the CC now but even that takes time. There will be a conference, a draft determination, a period of discussion, a further determination and then the minister's office has to accept or reject it. That takes months.

On the positive side, Chorus (Telecom's network arm) is just as keen to get LLU partners in the cabinets as the partners are, so hopefully the CC process will be smooth and we can get on.

Telecom's plan is to upgrade all the exchanges to cabinets in the next few years. Someone from Chorus might be able to answer that question with more detail though.

PhoneMonkey, have a look at the 2nd sheet in this spreadsheet, checking out the CabinetID againt the code on the side of the cabinet you believe you are on, this will indicate if its to be upgraded and approximately when. If it is to be upgraded then you are better off accepting a cable shortend wholesale product until sub loop unbundling will enable other operators on your cabinet.
