I bring this up in a new thread because it seemed I was not the only one unsure about this issue, so just to make it easier to find for others.

On the Xnet website, Asterisk is mentioned as a supported softphone. The link is this one:

I looked hard, but this site seemed to be for Linux users only. So I searched around and found this:
http://www.asteriskwin32.com/

Is this the same software? Will it work with Xnet`s VFX?

Asterisk is not a softphone. It's a Linux based PBX application. You still need a softphone, IP phone or ATA to make calls.

All right, I`m very slowly starting to understand it. So Xnet doesn`t actually provide a softphone with the VFX service, and I can only get the phone service working if I hook up the ATA, or sign up with a third party softphone service provider. Ok, better get that PAP2T.

Well sort off. You can have an ATA device, or a PBX device, or a soft PBX such as Asterik. The last will requre some configuration, while an ATA device is pretty much plug and forget.
