Good evening team. I just wanted to now if anyone has had any experience in signing up for any of the Vodafone deals where you get a cash price off the handset and pay it off over 12 months interest free on an Open Term plan.

If you decide you want to pay the remaining lump sum amount of the handset which shows on the bill, will you also be charged the cash discount you originally received? Being that you are on an open term plan, there was no term contract signed..

Not sure when you joined the plan and acquired the handset.

These are the T&Cs for some plans (there are links to other dates that might cover your case):

You agree that you will repay the outstanding amount due on remaining Interest Free Payments in full, prior to terminating or ending your eligible plan or transferring or re-signing. The outstanding amount is determined by the device recommended retail price at time Interest Free Payment was provisioned – (deposit + any Interest Free Payment paid to Vodafone + any device rebate amount, or Interest Free discount amount, if applicable). Early termination and transfer fees also apply to any Red+ 24 month plan.

I went through with same situation last year with Vodafone. Bought 2 x phones. One for me and one for wife. Both bought on 24 months interest free open term plan. The phones themselves were $500 off RRP each. After few months I ported my number across to my new employer and Vodafone only charged me the remaining balance that was owing on the phone while Wife’s connection is still on the same 24month interest free original account. I did not have to pay any RRP balance on top.

Interesting because that's not what the T&Cs say it should happen.

They might have changed the T&C maybe in the past few months and could be enforcing this now or they might have given us a bit of pass since we still have one connection left on the 24 month deal. Tbh I never read this part was in our contract or not. The deal was for iPhone X which had just come out few months prior and I was very surprised that it was going for $500 off per handset on 24 months open term plan interest free but you had to go on the $60/month open term plan each for both me and wife. Before we signed up, I asked if we could switch to the $40 open term plan next month since it is open term. The salesperson just nodded without confirming as they probably cannot promote this. Next month I went and saw same salesperson and they switched us to $40/month sharer open term plan for my connection and left my Wife’s on $60/month and we still got to keep our discount and this allowed us to use 10GB data per month combined and unlimited calling. Few months later, new employment and ported my number across to new employer who is with Spark and check next months bill from Vodafone and it was just total left of the remaining balance of discounted balance of months left on my connection.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Interesting, I wasn't sure if that term read original full price that gets devided over 12 months, or originally RRP. I called Vodafone and it sounds like they just charge you the remaining amount shown on the bill which is with the discount. So you could get $400 cash off over 12 months, then a month later pay it in full and switch providers. Getting a $1499 handset for $1099.

I'm going back to Spark, sick of Vodafone's terrible 4G coverage dropping to 3G/H+ all the time.. But I like my cheap S10.👍

Hey, if your number is in a contract you may be charged Early Termination Charges to port/disconnect that number, but other than that you are free to have your Interest Free Payment charged to your next invoice in full, whether the number is in contract or not. Feel free to PM me your mobile number and I'll take a look

Hi yea its an Open Term plan, was just paying off the handset over 12 months to get the $400 cash off. I've just paid the remaining amount in full and applied for Spark prepay.

Happy to pay $1100 for a S10 close to release! 😎 Beats iPhone's ridiculous prices for comparable specs..
