Im planning on travelling, and my carrier at the destination will be airtel. Now im wondering, does the iphone work on this? It may be a dumb question, but my personal experience has shown that vodafone phones have no trouble when a airtel sim card is popped into their phones, and they work withotu any problems. Vodafone also has a network in that country. Will the iphone work on the vodafone network wihtout any problems? Or is it strictly locked to NZ? Thanks. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, im in a hurry.
The iPhone sold by Vodafone NZ is not locked. It will also work with other operators' SIM cards but you will need to visit www.unlockit.co.nz to change the appropriate settings.
If you are using a Vodafone SIM card and travel overseas you will be roaming on any Vodafone partner network, no problems.
Recent update for iPhone (carrier update prior to 2.1) now allows you to change the APN on the iPhone 3G without the need for unlockit or the configuration utility.
