Hi zoners,

My dearly beloved received a new phone the other day and after a lot of setting up of apps and things , her SIM was transferred from old Android phone to the new Android phone.

She's getting text messages that refuse to send as well as incoming texts delayed or never coming.

Something is set up correctly because some of her texts send OK and some arrive also.

Is there anything I can do to straighten things out?

Cheers,

elp

Question is missing information. What "new Android phone"?

If the issue only started when you put the SIM in a new handset then you need to look at the handset (No way it will be the SIM card) and doubt it's any of the SMS settings

Hers of course :-) She has a brand new nokia 7.2

Please don't be so quick to blame the handset as I am sure there is a few technical things involved in sending text messages to a new phone including the system needing to cope with a different IMEI number and , dare i say it, Vodafone's billing system.

@elpenguino Zero relation to IMEI and the billing I worked on these systems for 17+ years

The IMEI is only checked on power-up by the EIR for checking the Blacklist table and the IMEI is also recorded in billing transactions, Not even the message centre number is used these days when in the home country +6421600600

The issue is 110% the handset software compatibility with the vodafone NZ network and I bet it was not sold by VodafoneNZ

Make sure the handset is completely updated.

When I got the Nokia Pureview for review I also used it on Vodafone. It would silently fail to drop from 4G to 3G during call setup on incoming call. Only restarting the phone, or turning flight mode off and on again fixed this - until next time it failed.

It only happened on certain cellsites, not everywhere. I would not know of a missed call because the icon wouldn't change at all.

Mentioned this to @NokiaGuy and was confirmed an incompatibility between firmware and Vodafone setup. An update was released later. Remember Vodafone does not test these phones as they are exclusive through Spark.

Could have told you this on the first reply if more information was provided from the start...

ahh. Thanks for the tip. I think this is a parallel import from expert infotech in akl. The phone's done an android update to 10 (i think) but I'll check for more updates.

There was an outstanding Google security update this morning so I have allowed that to be done.

A negative covid result came by text message this morning so somethings are working ok.
I'm sure I'll be advised if there's an ongoing issue.

Can you have a look and see if VoLTE is enabled on the Nokia?  If this is, turn it off. There has been some issues with non Vodafone sourced hardware and VoLTE causing issues with SMS.

Yes, but I'll have to find out where it is first.
A job for this evening.

If you can't find it, see the screenshots here.  My money is on that VoLTE is enabled based on the behaviour!

Well, this explains (and fixes) my issues.

I couldn't send texts from a VFNZ SIM when using AOSP, but could when using stock MIUI. Thought it was issues with handling of dual SIMs, but it turns out it's VoLTE. I guess the Xiaomi stuff didn't have VoLTE on by default. Receiving always worked fine on both SIMs.

This is on a Mi 9 Lite.

Thanks.
