I'm on the unlimited DL/128Upload plan - and I have just had enough. I might as well be on dial up. Torrent speed is a joke any time of the day and while I am running a torrent the computer is unusable coz it is so slow.

So any ISPs out there doing a good job and actually providing a good service for people who use torrents? I really hope the answer isnt no! I prefer to pay for what I use - which is why I liked Xnet in the first place. But they have gone from a company that I loved to - get me the hell out of here!

I'm sorry if someone else has asked this already - i have a thesis due in 2 weeks and dont have time to go through all the back posts. On that note be kind! I'm stressed! :-)

So any reccs?

Reports are that Xnet speeds have increased considerably over the past week or so. if you are on a torrent plan however you will still be lumped in with other torrent users at night by the lookf of it.

As for a torrent friendly ISP there are plenty - just don't expect to get $29 full speed connections with unlimied data! Xtra seem to be a popular choice at present and I've heard very good things about Actrix recently.

My experiance so far with signing up to orcon has been really good (connection goes live tomorrow).

Also have a friend whos just moved to xtra a week ago and is flying along on their new all in one home plan.

Thank you for the replies - I've started looking into plans - sadly they all look more expensive than xnet. But I just might have to bite the bullet. I think I will have wait till after the thesis is due - would hate to be left without a connection in the meantime, so I shall keep an eye on the comments in this thread.

Out of interest what kind of DL rates are you experiencing? I know it depends on how new the torrent is - but what is an average speed say the day after the torrent is released?

torrent = Bleach (eng subs)
Rate around 150 - 200KB/s

While on telstra I was getting ~300- 600KB/s

at the same time of day.. at around 7pm

Hmm another bleach ready for d/l.. I'll post findings afterwork.
Give it a try.. 170MB worth of avi

Niccccce. I've not seen that since Telstra days. In the end I pulled that torrent averaging 60KB.

What ISP you with? Xnet?

I have and speeds were still crap, so I switched to the pay per meg and speeds aren't like they used to be.

Anyway, I gave up complaining here and to Xnet a while ago. I have just organized the switch to Orcon adsl2, looks like a good choice if it's in your neighborhood.

My move to Orcon @home+ is working out really well. (2-5GB avg usage, no torrenting)

Originally I hesitated for a couple of months hoping that international speeds would improve, but finally gave up when I couldn't VPN into work at 8pm.

Hi guys, here are my speed on Xnet's Flood Pay Per meg @ 8:57pm Tuesday: Riccarton Exchange in CHCH

Various small linux distros on Utorrent

Speedtests:

Mixed results as you can see. International speeds suck outside of Torrenting.

Anywho, I'm able to move to Telstra Cable, but was considering Orcon or Telecom(again). Can people recommend either??

I'll be interested to hear what you go for in the end - I'm on the same plan as you at the same exchange. My speeds are way lower than those too

. I often find upload is faster than download these days!

Gutted because it was such a good connection for the first 11 months.

Papakura, about 1km from the exchange.

Previously on xnet fision ppu - national was giving me up to 10-13mb, but international was usually .6-3mb
