Running Windows Home Premium
Nokia 6121 as modem.

According to speedtest.net i am getting 116kb/s down, 118kb/s up and ping of 177, seems very slow, is this normal?

Phone is showing 3.5g connection and signal strength is full.

The 3G site you are working off was only turned on today,

Will do some checks on the serving cell

My speed sucks too. I use the train from Wellington to Paraparaumu daily, keeps switching between 3g/gprs/edge. Generally browsing the internet while on route is extremely slow, sometimes I have 56k modem speeds.

Please Vodafone fix this, and while you at it, would be nice to have some antenas installed in all the tunnels.

EDGE are you sure?

and it will reach 56k when switching to GPRS,

Have you tried locking to 3G only then it can't switch to GPRS.

What device are you using?

Hi again, thanks for the response. I just presumed that Vodafone in NZ had edge :-| , I found out today that there is no Edge in NZ on Vodafone, so its just switching between 3G/GPRS. Anyway, I am using a Nokia N70, hooked up via Bluetooth on my notebook. It works pretty well in a 3G area and speed is fine, but it does not work that well when on the train. I experience simular problems when I use my Vodafone data card (brought over from South Africa), both devices experience simular results. My N70 is not capable of forcing a 3G only connection, however my datacard is and when I set it to 3G only the connection its worse, probably because the entire area is not serviced by 3G and the connection just dies when its out of 3G range? Anybody know where I can get a map of 3G/GPRS coverage?

I must admit that the Vodafone 3G service is not very good, I have experienced much better coverage and service in Aus and South Africa and never have these problems. I am new in the country, have not signed up to any Vodafone data plan and a bit hesitant to do so. Can anybody comment on the service with one of those Telecom cards? Alternatively are there any other SP’s that may be better? :-)
