Hi all,

Just had a mate over from LA for a week (pitty the short annual leave they get!).

He was using his blackberry all the time web and email, told him to watch out as the bill will hurt when he got home.

Nope, he says paid $25 US to AT&T (his US carrier) for 5GB for the month of international roaming data.

Could that be true? I may ask him to fax me his bill.....if so.....

Nice one AT&T.

Vodafone, I'd pay $50 for 5GB when I go to the USA or OZ, or hell, HERE at home!

How about it, or do I need to get an AT&T sim to get the good deals?

Vodafone NZ have terrible data roaming rates compared to many other Group networks.

Vodafone UK for example offer up to 50MB in a 24hr period while roaming on a large number of networks (incl NZ) for £9.99 providing you have an existing data plan with Vodafone.

I think your mate is going to get a shock when he gets home

The rate in the US will not be valid while romaing only when he is in his home country

The data roaming rates must be on the AT&T website

Go have a look around and see if you can find it

I initially read that as 5MB not 5GB.. If he hses anywhere near that he's in for a big shock!

I'd say he's going to be really really badly hurt. I have a couple of AT&T SIM cards and this is the kind of price paid for US-only data...

ATT.COM shows intl roaming at 0.02/kb

Have emailed him to confirm and fax me his bill, will update if he's brave enough to say he got it wrong ! Oops it's gonna hurt!
