Hi guys. Is there anyone here that lives close to the Summerset Resthome village on Te Mata Rd, Havelock North that could do a 4G speed test on their phone for me please? My father is moving to a Villa there soon and I’m interested to know speeds. He currently has One 4G broadband and lives opposite the Hastings Hospital. Speed is reasonably good there. I was wandering if a Sky Pod would run ok on it but the Sky website says 100mb is recommended. But my Sky Go app runs ok on 50 mb.

Bear in mind that speed tests can be very dependent on time of day, time of year, antenna type, and antenna location.

I'd be concerned about a rest home if they're pushing 4G/5G wireless. Many, many connections in close proximity.

Is fibre not available? One’s $65 fibre plan will be changing to 100mb around June - same price as their wireless, but you’ll have a much more consistent experience - especially with live streaming.

The Resthome is not pushing wireless broadband. Dad already has 4G wireless at his old home and I was looking to just unplug the modem. Take it to the new home just for ease and continuation of use. The rest home does have fibre. We will use that as a backup if need be.

Thanks for the heads up about speed changes on the $65 plan in June. He currently only pays $40 for 4G wireless as he’s had it for a little while and they haven’t added the $65 to his bill, yet. He may be happy to pay the extra 25 bucks and go to fibre. Just trying to keep everything as easy as possible for him in his old age as I’m his IT guy and I live in Christchurch

One just told me the speed increase happened on Feb 18th. Great news.

FYI, I believe fixed wireless plans are somewhat geo-locked; they will only work near the address they are approved for, and won't work on other cellsites. There are some locations where the tower is heavily loaded and they won't accept fixed wireless sign ups.

I didn't realise that, thanks for the heads up.

He is paying $40 now, for 4G wireless and VOIP landline, so it's only another $25 to go to fibre. He can proberly drop his Landline. But being on a fixed income

(Superannuation), he need's to spend every dollar wisley.
