Seems yet again the Government of NZ have allowed Large Corporates (ie Telecom) to rape our population by beaurocratic bungling, and ill thought out legislation, and real competition in the telecommunications market is virtualy impossible and will always cost us more than is fair or necessary.  I cannot see any chance of intelligent change in the rest of my lifetime, and I am too old to fight anymore, so Reluctantly but necessary due to living in a capitalist society I am obliged to change ISP, Xnet was great in the beginning, and I believe truly tried to live up to their promise of commitment to Service and their Vision, And I believe their statement of "To us, the key stakeholders are our customers"  has fell by the wayside in order to survive. The increase in the cost or Fusion is the final straw in the recent problems with speed, outages, email, and spam.
So from a dissapointed but understanding customer, Goodbye.
For the excellent service and prompt support in the past, Thank you.

I think it may also have been Abraham Lincon who said words to the effect that Government needs to ensure that Corporate Bodies are not allowed to grow so powerful that they cannot be controled. Who am I moving to, doesnt realy matter now as they are all the same and the only real consideration now has to be cost.

Don't want to distract from the other points you reaised but blaming Telecom for the increase in Fusion is unfair.

You live in a areas that is classed as rural by the Commerce Commission. The Commerce Commission set the ULL rates and made determinations as to where metropolitan and rural cutoffs where - not Telecom.

I do not blame Telecom  I Blame the Govt.  Telecom are only working within the Govt Legislation,  Unfortunately the legislation is inadequate, but then the Govt, is a shareholder in Telecom.

Yes. But there is plenty of evidence to show that the costs of providing and maintaining POTS services to rural areas costs significantly more than metropolitan areas. Hence the final determination that ULL or naked wholesale ADSL would cost more than in urban areas.

I don't want to get into an discussion about what's right or wrong here as it it would be off topic but feel free to start another thread if you want to, the TSO and issue of non viable customers is an issue that many people have very strong opinions on.

Telecom NZ has a 100% publically listed and owned company since 1990 when it was sold off as parof the NZ Government Asset sales. It is not owned or controlled by the NZ government and they have no say in the running of the company.

If the Government have any stake in Telecom it would only be through investment such as the superannuation fund which owns shares in many companies around the world.

Email well I 100% agree but my latest beef with WxC is their SPAM filtering, what SPAM issues did you have ?

yes I have a similar issue, they tell me their spam filter will "learn" the spam I move to my spam folder but this had had little visible if any difference. Much of the SPAM I receive the industry would consider certainly spam [e.g. male anatomy in the title] yet I still get it.

Bear in mind this is the same team that struggled to deal with their recent and numerous email issues so I don't have much faith. I'm considering a formal complaint to the anti spam unit at DIA, that should hopefully get them to at least look at their spam filtering. Obviously I could change addresses but why should I ? I can do that when I change ISP Wink

I would say spam is a problem for all ISPs. It's related to how much of your email address is listed on pages, newsgroups, and other places, how many of your "friends" have trojans on their PCs collecting address books, and how many botnets are around the world.

Agreed but my issue is the quality of WxC's SPAM filtering. What is called in the industry 'certainly SPAM' should be identified as SPAM. I received SPAM that meets my criteria of certainly SPAM yet it is not identified by WxC's SPAM filter as such

I've said it once, I'll say it again...the more people that leave Xnet, the more I can say:

"All your bandwidth are belong to us."

....that assumes they stay afloat, of course.

I've said here before but I'll say it again, we use Xnet at home and work for ADSL connection and for two VFX phone lines at work.
We have never had any major problems with them other than the usual outages that you get with all ISPs.
iHug/Vodafone had a big one yesterday that was still causing problems today, at least in Whangarei.
Never had that before with Xnet.
Never had a problem with speed and never had a problem with emails. Xtra seems to have problems with their email servers every other week.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
