Over the weekend our Fusion service went down.  It appears to be a problem at the exchange (plug in normal phone hear screeching sounds, silent after port reset).  Normally takes 1 to 2 days for a technician to come out, but at the moment it can be a week.  Recently my wife stopped working and does odd comtract jobs with everything done over the internet.  We need a wireless connection for a week.  Any suggestions?  She needs her computer for the job, as it involves SolidWorks and DriveWorks and a few other CAD applications, and can't use an internet cafe.

I don't suppose there is another way of getting an exchange/port repair done faster?  We are in Pakuranga, Auckland.

(Can argue this belongs to a more general forum, can also argue it is relevant/important for Fusion customers who relies on the internet for their phone line.)

I do a lot of sound engineering and other stuff at our church, will see if I can get an office there, but still temporary wireless at home would be better than driving 10km if/when she gets a support call.

I probably have a spare USB EVDO (CDMA) modem here.
Also have an EVDO PCMCIA card too.

Both disconnected, so you can just chuck a data plan on, then cancel at end of week?

Got it sorted, nice South African guy came around. The fault was a crazy electronic engineer who loves Volvos did a poor wiring job which failed after a couple of years... Always thought I should go into the ceiling to tidy up the temp job I did one weekend. Oh well, this comes out of my pocket money which I was saving for a new set of carburettors.

Sync increased by 2 to 3 Mbps (now over 10 Mbps), so at least e-mails and updates will download faster.

It all went wrong when someone wanted to buy my central splitter which I did not need any more, but I did not have the bits to join wires properly and my soldering iron died. And then the guy never bought the splitter either, and it is a big job getting into the ceiling so I never went back to fix it properly.

I've got a good idea of what wiring I want and where, just not up to getting into dark tight spaces. Might take up an offer from the technician to do it for me.

Ah, should have been easy - you just chop out the splitter. Then the dedicated ADSL jack-point would have become N-DSL, and the other jack-points would have become dead to outside world all good for the VoIP feed from an ATA.

Dedicated jack point? The wiring I chopped out 2 years ago was the original 1960's "doorbell" wire.

I know I should have done it right first time, but it was a Sunday evening and thought I'd get back to it.
