Does anyone know if Vodafone NZ has at least 1 dedicated GPRS timeslot on ALL of its cell sites? I want to know if a site will prioritise voice on all of its timeslots or if it will keep some for GPRS in the rare case of an overload of voice calls?
Yes every cell-site has at least 1 dedicated timeslot for GPRS and many have more than this. Of course most of the time it is not an issue as all cell-sites are capacity planned to handle busy period voice and data requirements.
this is really for for Telemetry uses (tiny, important amounts of data that must just get through) I have hardly ever seen an overload (only one for a short time over last new years when every was pxt'n and calling hard)
paradoxsm: this is really for for Telemetry uses (tiny, important amounts of data that must just get through) I have hardly ever seen an overload (only one for a short time over last new years when every was pxt'n and calling hard)
Are you saying that the reason for this is to cater for telemetry users requirements or that Vodafone has dedicated GPRS timeslots available but only for telemetry users?
Unsure, though they do keep one always available for GPRS, for that detailed answer you would have to contact Vodafone. (good luck as they are very silent on these types of matters)
