Had to go through vodafone phone insurance today due to a phone being lost/pickpocketed. Does anyone have any experience with the insurance guys? made the claim with the police report, everything.

Anyone know how long it usually takes them to get in touch with you? And the process from there?

Did you speak to the insurance people or just the VF CSR?? You should have been transferred by VF to the call centre for Marsh (Insurance providers) who would have then completed the initial process over the phone. If you spoke to VF and then went to get a police report you need to call 0800 505021 and speak to them about getting a replacement.

Did the claim online - the Marsh people (0800 505 021) told me this way was the best. Did it a few hours ago, called them and said the claim hadnt been lodged yet...

How did you go with your claim? I assume it was all sorted in the end.

As an aside i attempted to lodge a claim through my friendly local vodafone store as i prefer to deal face to face with people and make sure it works before i leave the store and we duly faxed off the paperwork (how quaint), i just called to check on the claim and was advised that they had not received the fax.

How did you find them to deal with? Well once they found your claim....

They were really good! Quick, no problems. Took 3 days for the phone to arrive.

I guess I got lucky with the fax, as the store's fax machine was broken, so I did it from my work.

Good stuff. What model was your old phone and what choices were you given if EOL?

Hope their email is more reliable than their fax machine as i have emailed them teh original form. So much for the old fashioned way working better....

Am dreading my options for a replacement phone as there is nothing on vodafone.co.nz now with 8mp with a xenon flash / lens cover, gps and wifi that isn't a damn touch screen.

I've got a feeling i'm gonna be a very sad panda.

Well my phone was an iphone 3G, which they still have in stock presumably, and that's what I received back. No choice.

I think you may be in for a touch screen my friend, unless you want to go the blackberry route. By the sounds of your old phone, the replacement might be a SE X10... which isnt too bad.

I got downgraded thet last time I made a claim...really ticked me off. VF made up the difference via voucher after a big yell from me.

Basically I was told that the features such as Xenon flash etc were not their problem and that the basics - phone, 3G, camera up to 3mp etc were what they worked on.

Now I have an iPhone there's little choice but for them to replace it with another the same.

Well I have been side-graded to an x10 i'm still considering my options as it isn't really a camera with a phone and my "dumb" c905 had everything else that i needed (gmail, wifi, gps). The camera/phone rather than phone/camera may seem a bit funny to some but cellphone cams are generally quite rubbish and every phone can do calls and sometimes i just can't quite read those damn microsoft cd keys or serial numbers off laptops...... Not to mention half decent internal pics of blown up stuff for insurance letters etc.

The x10 doesn't have a xenon flash, nor a lens cover and i just really don't like touch screens, although as a geek the possibilities of android and homebrew flash/cooked roms appeals immensely.

The other options were an n97 mini, x6 or lg 750 - none of which appealed.

I guess i will have a play with the x10 first and see if i can live with it.

Yeah i should love it, but i still feel it is overkill for a phone. I already have a dell x51v on wm6.5 for pda things and the c905 was an awesome camera without me worrying about the old smudges finger over the lens. Most awesome was the xenon flash, that saved my uh bacon a number of times.

The x10 certainly has the specs, but i don't think that the touch screen phones are as rugged as a candy bar or slide phone (not that i'm rough but i do like to take care of my gadgets and the easier they are to take care of the better).

Saying all this i may find love at first sight and be happy with it as an apple devotee with an iphone, then again i may pine for the old clunky cybershot phone.

I know exactly where you are coming from, but the transition to touchscreen is certainly helped by having a high-spec unit with nice capacitive screen.

Of the choices you were given, you made the right choice by taking the X10.

Personally, I can't understand why the Xenon flash (which has always been a feature of Cybershot phones) has been phased out. I understand they are heavy on batteries, but at the end of the day a glorified video light just doesn't cut it.
