Hi,

It seems the rest of the world buzzes with Android.. along side Iphone.
Here in NZ it seems Iphone is it..
I just read somewhere on these forums that vodafone might bring in the desire.. but seriously.. the desire is already on the way out... The samsung galaxy s is far superior and a bunch of new android phones are about to challenge the desire already.
The desire even lacks multitouch.....

Anyway, I am wondering why NZ carriers are always so behind in bringing in new phones?
It s like we get the hand me downs unless its an iphone...

Are vodafone going to try and bring in more android devices and a bit faster in future?
Why don't they now? just not enough ??

Vodafone has just announced three Android handsets, with one already in the market.

Telecom New Zealand has one Android handset, with another one announced.

So far five handsets - the recently announced ones are actually very new. I also hear more are coming from all sides. So wait and see.

That is good to hear, going to the vodafone website I think I can only spot 1 , that being the sony erricson x10 which isnt exactly the most favourable out there especially being on an ancient version of android....

It just seems I constantly read about roll outs for android sets on carriers overseas and then nz either doesnt get them at all or its _ages_ after and by then they are well out of date...

For a phone that is 'on the way out', the desire is still hot property and suppliers overseas have recently still been selling out. Also, Desire does support Multi Touch.

Even if Vodafone did want the Desire earlier, it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't actually get them. Stock shortages and Vodafone probably wanting a custom ROM etc along with the relative small numbers we ask for in NZ probably mean they're lower down the food chain than the UK or even Aussie.

Yes, that kind of proves my point.

Those phones are already out of date... The rate android sets are coming out means carriers have to move pretty quickly and vodafone NZ seem to be moving slowly. I am wondering if that is just because they are slow or if its just that they only get second pickings after big carriers overseas.

Lets face it, vodafone are talking about bringing the desire in, it isnt even here yet, but already its outdated.
That is perhaps the problem with android and that it moves in far faster cycles than iphone with their yearly updates.
Phones like droid 2, samsung galaxy s etc are the ones that should be being released right now. Releasing old android phones like desire etc against an iphone 4, the dont have a chance..

and seriously... the milestone?? well the droid is a nice phone for sure... but its old, and the droid 2 is about to be released either this month or in the next couple...

as i said.. we get them so far behind....

Well when I say multitouch, I mean a phone that doesn't get "confused" when the axis cross over which was the problem with desire and the nexus one using the cheap sensor (ClearPad 2000) which wasnt designed for full multitouch....just simple gestures....

Nice to note that htc have moved away from using that cheap sensor with their phones since the desire.\

Apple release, lets just say, 1 phone product a year..... of course it's going to appear to stay current longer than say handsets from HTC or Samsung who release, lets just say... heaps

...and everything becomes obselete once its released because theres always something brighter and better up around the corner, and when you go round it you'll always find another corner......
