Does your ATA have correct DNS settings?

sbiddle: Does your ATA have correct DNS settings?

I've got the ata connected to the modem (am300) which is set to half bridge mode. The status page of the ata (wrtp54g) shows

Default Gateway:       118.90.131.254

DNS 1:       58.28.5.2

DNS 2:       58.28.6.2

Having said that, I notice that there is another dns entry under voice / system.
I have not set that (and have never (that I can remember) set that).

I'll set that seeing as a valid entry in there is better than none I suppose. I thought the time at the remote end took precedence over any ntp time derived locally.

Will see what happens.

Hmm, interesting.

On the ata (which doesn't have any time zone set up options that I can see), the current time on the voice tab is given as
Current Time: 1/4/2003 11:44:41

On the modem (which is set to automatically adjust to nzdt), the time is given as
Current Date and Time: 08/03/2003, 23:48:24

On the desktop, which was recently synchronised with ntp source on the internet somewhere, this time was
22:28:00 on 15th December.

All of these were done within a few seconds of each other.

Have you reset the ATA?

Hmm, after putting in the dns settings under the voice tab (and waiting for a reboot), the time is now correct again.

So, any theories why this stopped working as I'm sure nobody locally has changed any settings, and, it was working then stopped?

hmm a bit strange, should only have needed that the main DNS settings so should have been fine, a bit strange though that the the modem had the same issue, possibly you may not have need the DNS in the voice setting a reboot of both the modem and ATA may have cured it ... a quess at this stage

My WRTP54G does not need DNS in the voice section for the time to be correct. And the time in the router section is "not available".

Some routers are bad at doing DNS corectly, so that could be the reason.
