For the past few days I have had terrible call quality with my Voda homeline. Some of the issues are:

Calls connect & I hear them just fine, but they can't hear me at all.

Calls sound clear, but I clearly hear my voice in crystal clarity coming back at me (great for talking to myself)

Calls have intermittent dead spots - where conversation seems clear then there's nothing but dead air for a few seconds.

I've experienced this with calls to Auckland and Australia. Any idea why this is happening?

Same issue here - have been blaming my cordless phone as it's not every call - but now I'm wondering...

Had a call with my sister in Palmerston North that I had to call her back a few times as I couldn't hear her (very muffled and breaking up)

Anyone else??

Has it only happened with your calls to Palmerston North? Just wondering as I am in Palmerston North.

Yes only Palmy at that really bad quality, other calls have just been a bit echoey and distant sounding.

alvstar2001: question: only happening with toll calls?

No, it's happening with both long distance and local calls, but it's only happening intermittently. The echoing hasn't occurred with any incoming calls but occurs on about 1/2 the national outgoing calls and 100% of calls to Australia. On a recent call to Australia it was fine on the second try, for about 10 minutes, then started going really bad. Dead air is random but happening a lot on both incoming and outgoing calls.

I'm also getting calls on my mobile from people who have tried to call the homeline and heard it ringing with no answer. Each time, the handset was sitting right beside me and hadn't rung on my end.

In between the times that these problems occur call quality is good so I haven't been able to find any common denominator yet.

have you gone through an isolation test with your service provider? (in this case vodafone?)

as long as you go through this test with them (and perhaps they can test for a possible break or earth contact in your line), and if proven out of CPE (customer's premisis equipment) than you should have a technician booked? assuming your paying MWIRE on the line you should be safe from the exchange right up to your jackpoint.

from what ive read, i would believe its something in the line somewhere

It's hard to test anything when its not happening consistently. Yesterday, for example, I had no problems. I had calls in and out, including from Auckland and to Australia without any dead spots, echoes or loss of connection. This afternoon there are problems again.

This is on the Vodafone Wireless Home Line, which uses the mobile network. It's not a landline phone.
