Telstra NZ? I mean, look at Westpac, it used to be known as WestpacTrust during the merging between Westpac Australia and Trustbank Canterbury.

The feeling that I have, It may eventually be renamed, remodel, refocus and reintroduce to NZ as Telstra NZ, and as mentioned by Mauricio on "Is Vodafone PLC up for grabs now?", I commented that IF this does happen, perhaps TelstraClear will grab it to integrate 3GSM network into their business, since TelstraClear really is just missing one last leg, their own mobile network.

Hmmmm.... could well be possible.

You would have to assume that Telstra would be the most logical buyer for Vodafone NZ if a decision was made to sell. They are still very annoyed they lost BellSouth to Vodafone at the last minute so it would be rather ironic if it did infact happen!

The biggest concern at the moment would be the imminent T3 selloff and how this would affect any plans for NZ. Is a company really going to spend several billion buying an asset in NZ when there own future is uncertain and being closely scrutinised by the Australian government? Their CEO is either an absolute idiot or genius depending on what way you look at him and they seem far more focussed on losing money in Asia than trying to improve things in their own backyard!

My prediction - SingTel would have the inside running.

hmmm singTel actually wont be a bad candidate. it surely will get real competitive if they operates here. they probably will push for every known boundary to offer cut throat price and services. perhaps the flat rate data plan soon will be available? hehe

At the moment, TCL is trying to figure out which of the three Baby Telstras will own them. The Aussie government doesn't believe that a telco monopoly that controls all communications is a good idea, especially now that it'll be privatised, and is splitting Telstra into three.
