Hi,

I have an N70 and the latest firmware seems to offer quite a few fixes and enhancements (speeding it up being a main point). Apparently these can only be done at Nokia repair centres - of which there are none in NZ. Any idea where I take this to get updated in NZ? (I'm in Auckland FYI)

Mobile Fone repair? MFR in Mt Wellington........

My n70 is bloody slow as sh*t and ive apparently got the latest firmware(unless a new one came out since), i dont believe nokia n70 is as good as people make it out to be, bought brand new from vf the day it came out and there has been a few probs with it so i have noticed......

Cheers for the info.
I'm on v2..x.x.x.x.x, then there was a 3.x... now there's a 5.x...
Read some stuff on net and suggests it helps. I have a few problems with it too, hence the desire to get the thing patched, and if it speeds it up, that'll be great - it's a damn slow fone.
I'll let you know how i get on.

the latest firmware for N70 RM-84 is v6.01 and for 6680 is v8.00 and I can flash them. I do charge for this service.

I just contacted MFR today about flashing my Nokia 6230 to V5.50 from 2004s V4.44:
This, because my phone is out of warranty, $28.10 I find that reasonable considering the nearest Nokia care centre is in Australia ...

I would suggest you double check the pruices before sending your phone, as far as I know $28.10 is just there assessment fee.

I can flash your 6230 to the latest version for $40.00

OK I can't argue anymore, has anyone ever got a fone flashed by MFR for that price, I would love to know coz the lady who answers the fone at MFR tells $28.20, no matter what you ask to be done, and that it there assessment fee. try calling tomorrow and ask that you want to get your faceplate changed.

Changing a screw on face plate is different than flashing firmware.

John mate, all I am saying is $28.10 is there assessment fee and they will charge that no matter what you get one, service charges are on top of that,some people did not realise that and have had troubles, the girls answering the phone don't show the complete picture, I wanna know if anyone has even paid $28.10 for a successful flashing to MFR? Cheers

If the handset is NZ new and not a import this is what they charge to flash a handset.

A few years back it was $12.00 + GST

If the handset is a import they will not touch it

I'll call to get mine sorted tomorrow and post back. "Unlocker" offered the service to me for $80 as it takes a long time?! Flashing firmware is always a fairly swift process, I'd suggest people avoid his service. I'll let you know how my flash gets on.

Hi, I work allong side MFR 89 Carbine Road Mt Wellington, I see that people are having some problems with the fee for Flashing, I can assure you that I dont get charged anything like $28.10 for Flashing a N70, This is there "minimum assessment fee" they charge this for sending your phone to them and for their tec's to open the phone and check the internals. I havnt ever had a Nokia N70 (BB5) Flahed before but I can tell you that I have had a Nokia 6600 Flashed 3 weeks ago and I was charged $107.67 and this included a 30 day warranty against manufacture defects. If this is for a Nokia 6600 then I can only just think of what they might charge for a newer model of phone such as a N70 or a 6680, I would think that it will be not far off about $150.00 Never take a quote over the phone from M.F.R to be true as they will allways want you to send them in the phone for an assessment, this is just a way that they can get the phone to them and can assure that they will make a cut out of a non-warranty handset. They will also not be too happy with a phone that was from oversea and can never guarantee their work on one of those phones as they dont meet "New Zealands requirements" Really MFR need to wake up to the real world or mobile phones and communications.... this is how it is for a well known NZ mobile company..... Telecom NZ, they can understand the problems and they have teken it upon themselves to start up their own Mobile Phone repair service called Telegistics which I also deal with and can assure you that they are great. Best of Luck with your flashing of your N70 mate and I look forward to the heafty price they throw at you after your $28.10 "quote" Thanks MR021
