Hi

I really need a steady connection to the net. But my router (Netgear DG834 Router Modem) drops off about once every 2 days. Sometimes 3 times in an hour.

How can I find out what is causing this.

Is it my Router?

Is it Vodafone?

You need to perform an isolation tests to eliminate your hose wiring as a possible cause.

Statistically speaking it'll be your internal house wiring that is probably causing the issue.

I hated having to do isolation tests. Meant we had to without a phone while we waited to see if the ADSL broke. It was one of the reasons I went naked broadband.

My tip would be to unplug your phone and filter when it's late and no-one's going to be calling on home phone anyway. Give it a few nights like that and see if it breaks again. If not, replace the filter.

If it does break, check the status of wiring maintenance on your bill before you go changing any wiring at home.

Cool, Thx everyone now I have some real direction to explore.

Just one more question. Are there any routers that will just reboot if they loose their connection. Presently I have to unplug my router to reboot it.

When you lose your ADSL connection, you should still be able to log in over the web interface to reboot if needed.

If there were such devices, I wonder if they would just continuously reboot whenever the ADSL input was unplugged?

You could set a Reboot Limit.

I don't know if you could say I have a server. But my computer is on 24 / 7 so if I loose my connection when I'm away its a disaster (sort of)

That sounds like motivation to get those isolation tests done asap :o)

This could be a fault at their end too, but you must do the isolation tests first.
