Was trying to switch my iPhone onto vodafone with the smart 1 plan + bonus 3gig plan. Had the paperwork almost done when i asked the the voda salesman if i could get a credit limit applied and he outright said no.
Im not great at monitoring my usage so decided against switching onto vodafone smart 1. Another vodafone store said the same. Curiously i went to another (3rd) vodafone store and the lady said she can apply a limit but the minimum they do is $150 when i just don't want to go over the $40 smart plan cost.
Does anyone here have a vodafone phone with a credit limit

They do as they automatically put one at $300 on our business account.

You wouldn't want to have the credit limit at exactly the same as your plan cost anyway otherwise as soon as you hit the limit you can't use the phone. You would go over the $40 as as soon as you check your voicemail.

you don't want a $40 credit limit unless you want to be barred straight away every month on your bill cycle date

I did have a $300 limit, but that quickly got removed at my request.

As I understand it, the Vodafone financial team are solely responsible for credit limits, no-one else. Give them a call, I'm sure they can sort you out.

BUT, as CYaBro said, it would be very stupid to get one set at $40 on your $40 plan. Try doubling it and see how you go.

well, all i do is mainly txt after i use minutes, so I'm guessing i can still do that + call 0800 numbers and use any existing data i have left?

I also asked for credit limit for my 3G data plan as my bill was more than eight hundred dollar. VF could not do that for me.

yeah, i was told that i can try apply for it from the csr but it won't go through unless you actually have a bad credit rating.
Looks like this is just another way for vodafone to make more money.

A credit limit can be set if requested, Would it not be much easier to SMS BAL to 777 during the month and just track your unbilled usage.

I had a credit limit. I was happy with it. As a good customer with a few years standing it was taken off. It was a struggle for me to get it reapplied. I saw the credit limit as something protecting me if I ever lost my phone and someone wanted to call 0900 numbers and do other costly things with it.

I used to work in this team at Vodafone. They can do credit limits. The main issue though is that it is a static credit limit on your billed an unbilled balance, and when barred, it bars ALL outgoing activity, including access to bundles.

It doesn't work very well for things that don't rate in near real time like data, 0900, roaming, etc, but can work really well in a couple of ways:

1. Get an AP set up from your Bank to put money into the Vodafone account that covers all of your monthly charges on the date you are billed.
2. You are able to quickly pay some more to get the bar lifted if you do accidentally go over the limit.

The bar doesn't get applied instantaneously and will only check your balance once or twice every 24 hours, and you will need to check your own balance regularly. It is not a set and forget, you are responsible for all charges no matter if the credit limit works, as there were a few times when I was in that team when it broke, or it transpired that something else caused it to fail on a customers account.

It worked really well for some people, and didn't suit others.

$40 seriously...
If you can't work within your plan limits then you're on the wrong plan.

Ultimately it's your responsibility to to manage your usage not Vodafones (or any other Telcos)

Credit limits are not bundle-aware. It only looks at your billed and un-billed (rated) balance.

If you use your bundles before you are billed, your balance is still $0 and you can use $40 before your phone gets barred. When you're invoiced, you get charged $40 and the gst is added for those billed amounts, taking the balance to about $100.

I would absolutely not recommend the credit limit for what you are trying to do. It is not suitable for managing your usage to your bundles. If your budget is really tight, you should use prepay

maybe you should consider other options if you are really concerned about spending more than you want/need. btw, 2degrees offer credit limit on their Pay Monthly plan (this can be setup from the website in 2 minutes!). if data you are after, 2degrees is offering 1GB on $59 plan and there are more options available if you live in 2degrees coverage area.

if you feel credit limit is VERY important to you, best to look for other options....
