contacted Vodafone and put me to Brightpoint, then they say they will charge me $30+gst. after that i found this from Vodafone's website.

I though all of the phones in NZ are unlocked. Any ideas, guys?

It's probably not a NZ Blackberry if it's locked.

My work once upon a time issued the Blackberry and back in the day I think Vodafone did lock it (like it was the one and only thing they started locking before they decided not to lock phones).

I tried putting a 2degrees sim into the other day and it wouldn't connect - found out it was network locked.

If you can wait 24 hours go here and get it unlocked for free: http://freemyblackberry.com/ - that's what I did - works perfectly.

The device was from Vodafone NZ. When I put an oversea sim card in there the other day, it requested the Blackberry MEP Code. I don't know if MEP code is the code to lock the network.

Yes it is. I think the reason theyre locked is something to do with other sim cards messing with the service books. I have no idea if this is true or not, it's just what I've heard.

You will have similar issues with imported blackberry handsets that have been unlocked, apparently it's a bit of a mission to get BIS etc working on them because the PIN defaults back to the original carrier. Again this is just what I've heard, I could be wrong.

My newly unlocked Blackberry running on 2degrees does have some data access, like Google Maps, Twitter, LinkedIn, but the web browser icon has disappeared and Facebook won't work - definitely something to do with no BIS service books for the 2degrees network.

I don't believe it'll mess up anything with the phone - calls and texts work just fine for me.

But, yes, it was probably originally locked to protect people from going why doesn't data work when I put a different sim card in because they don't understand the Blackberry way.
